Caller asked for an executive by name and I asked who she is calling from.  She mentioned Human Resources Foundation.  That sounded like something made up at the spot.  I told her to give me a few seconds to put her on hold and as soon as I put her on hold she quickly hung up.

Well, to the best of my knowledge, today marks the first time I have gotten a call from these guys since I left that review last year. Maybe they give you the annual try in hopes that someone new will be keeping the gate. I really haven't been bothered by these guys. Until I looked up the number just now, I had all but forgotten them.

BTW, we have a separate line for fax, so I can't transfer like that... but boy if I could! I know a few marketers that would be REALLY familiar with that awful screeching sound by now! Good idea!

No to Magazine Callers! replies to Rhea
The " Magazine Update" person called our work number again, correctly asking for the name of our owner, and I told her that when they called the first time, we are not interested , and please do not call back. It's always to confirm the information so they can keep sending us a free subscription to an Electrical Wholesale Magazine. We're not in the electrical business, and told them not to call again, or I'd report their number.

This number has called several times and my rule is - I have a loud whistle and I blow it very hard in their ear - that is my rule for all numbers I don't recognize and they stop.

-Possible off shore call center using an Arizona phone number
-Caller, male, pushy, beligerent and with a list of names and job titles hoping to phish out who is accurate or not I'm sure.
-Requested twice during the conversation to remove all contact information he was requesting along with number from his data base.
-Finally had to put my rude on, which I prefer not to use and told him I was switchboard and I had other calls which he intimated were not as important as his.
-Then asked for my full name and job position. Gave him -A- name and the rest of his request I was not legally obligated to provide and he was as legally obligated to drop this line of questioning once he had been told....
-He's going to contact my boss.

A lady from Magazine Update called and asked for one of our managers by name. When I asked what the call was regarding, she said she wanted to talk to him "about updating his address so he can continue to receive magazines for free." I sent her straight to his voicemail because he is very busy and doesn't need to waste time on frivolous matters. I should have "taken a message" and given her a fake address.

    Doctor's husband

They called the doctor at home twice a day for weeks.  We finally answered, and they asked for the doctor by name, wanting her personal information in order to continue to receive a medical magazine for free.  She told them 'No, just cancel it.'  The caller had an Indian accent.

This is a scam call, phishing for information.  They have a list of people receiving trade magazines and are trying to compile more detailed information about them.  They have nothing to do with the actual subscriptions.

They now are calling us twice a day. We ignore the calls. No message is ever left. You would think these stupid people would quit after a few attempts. We now had to resort to blocking the entire area code.

I've call forwarded unwanted numbers direct to voicemail (with their own special OGM :-) ), call forwarded them back to their own number, and put them on MoH indefinitely. I do like the idea of forwarding unwanted calls to the fax extension though!

Called to renew a trade magazine I receive.  Nice that they changed their Caller ID to something recognizable.

Ahh, Magazine Update.  Garbage trade magazines that nobody asked for, that nobody wants, that nothing happens to between the mailbox and the trash can and you almost always get at least four copies of each one addressed to current and former employees-twenty pounds of former trees straight to the trash each and every week.  Whoever the publisher is, they sell ads to various trade magazines that have no other real content.  For some reason, these call centers have to "update" the recipient's information, probably creating B2B sales leads that they sell to still more fools.  I refuse to give them squat because it will lead to still more useless junk mail and time wasting phone calls.  They are instantly disconnected when they call-hit the speaker button twice in rapid succession-no hello or goodbye.

    Here, here !!!

I concur 100%. These persistent pests call daily. What I need is industrial-grade D.D.T. to spray on every telemarketing firm. A good healthy dose of pesticide to wipe out all of these time-bandits.

Doctor's husband replies to Doctor's husband
This number started calling the home phone again.  It's been six months since they last called.  We'll probably just block this number if they persist - we have a better blocking phone now.  We do have other, semi-legitimate magazine callers, since we get tons of free mags, but this one seems scammish.  Beware.

    Doctor's husband, again
This caller spoke with an Indian/Pakistani accent when he called our home phone.  He mentioned a medical trade magazine that we receive, but all he really wanted was 'updated information,' starting with my name and title.  I calmly told him I couldn't help him with any information.  He sorta apologized, wished me a nice day, and said he would just try again another time.  I said "OK, then."

Called asking for our CEO, who has the 2 of the most common names in America, and the caller struggled with both EQUALLY hard. CEO dumped him into voicemail, and caller called right back trying to 'verify business information' but refused to identify himself.
