I've been getting calls from random numbers for awhile, even after changing my number. But this is the first time -THIS- number has called me. I did a search and found that it's from somewhere in Oregon. Someone else said they got a call from the number and that someone talked in a deep voice and then hung up. I don't know, they didn't leave a message for me. I really wish people would stop calling though. I'm the only one in my family who gets annoying calls from random numbers! And I do nothing different than the rest of my family. It's pissing me off!

Same thing....didn't answer, they left no voicemail!  I get these calls all the tme to my cell # which I haven't had very long telling me I've won this or that...always wanting to "confirm" something or for "just a shipping & handling fee," i will receive a very nice gift. But first they'll need the type of card I'll be using and the expiration date.....they don't ask for the card #, but with the card name and expiration date, they've already gotten too much!!!  So, if it's too good to be true....IT IS!!!!!

We have been receiving incoming calls on our cellphone from numbers in the 503, and 360 area codes.  We do not know anyone in those areas.  I have learned to disregard these calls once I found that answering them eats into our allotted cellphone minutes. It is bad enough to get unwanted/spam calls on your land line phone, but when just answering a phone call costs a person money, it takes WRONG  to a whole new level.

This number called and left no message.  Yep, I agree, sounds like a spammer or scammer!

Scam call.  Blocked their number!  I have a second phone- never gave anyone the number, never get one single call like this.  These guys are getting our phone numbers from someone- either our employers, or doctors office, or the newspaper subscription, the bank, a restaurant, somewhere, etc.  I'm going to find out who is selling my phone number.  I'm going to buy about ten cheap cell phones and give a different number to each business I deal with.  We'll see who is selling our phone numbers!

I just received a call from this number, but they didn't leave a message. Is it just some kind of automated spam service?

It's the return of the phony cruise-for-a-survey scam. Just hung up on a call on my cell phone. (6:55PM MDT)

For the people wondering how the scammers are getting your numbers - they aren't. They use a computerized auto-dialer system. All that someone has to do is give the computer a very simple set of instructions; i.e. dial all numbers in sequence for area code 303, 555-0000 to 555-9999. It's the exact same technology used in the Reverse 911 emergency warning system. The more sophisticated ones have a voice recognition feature built in; it hangs up on voice mail or answering machines, and records which numbers are disconnected, attached to fax machines, or the increasingly rare dedicated  computer modem. Disconnects are especially valuable, because since so much phone spam is done using VoIP, it gives the scammer a nice fat pool of phone numbers that they can use to munge peoples' caller ID.  You know how most e-mail spam come from addresses that are clearly fake? Same principle.

That's why it's so hard to track these buggers down. It's classic misdirection, and while it's entertaining to watch when being done by David Copperfield or Penn and Teller, it makes it very hard for law enforcement. Everybody's focused on the phone number, not the phishing website, and certainly not on where the money's going.

(On a side note, I really think that 800Notes needs a "scam" option in the drop-down menu for the known ones.)

These calls are most likely from a company in Oregon called telephone marketing. They literally have 69,000 numbers and will place calls for any con artist or legitmate business that buys in.
