- Linda replies to josephpeus| 1 replyjust got a call from same person, John H Peterson. Said computer had been calling windows saying I had virus. I told him that I hadn't had computer on in months so how had it been calling. Then I cut computer on & it wasn't connected to wifi. He hung up! What's going on?
- Tamianth replies to LindaIts a scam! The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face (preferable)!

http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-a-Fake-Anti-Virus-Program-%28Scareware%29 - Uncle LeRoy replies to josephpeusSame scenario, I have a friend John Peterson so answered. Said my windows system is screwed up. Tough considering I am on OS 10.10.4
He then said he would refer me to a Mac operator.
Eastern India type accent. - Dave| 2 repliesSame lady with the same scam. Kept just hanging up on her every day for a week straight. Then yesterday I told her to please stop calling me(way too polite than this deserves). Later that day my computer crashed. Not sure if it was a coincidence and my computer was pretty old, but it made me wonder.
- LisaI have gotten 2 calls from this number today. No message both times.
- Donna replies to Dave| 1 replyThey crashed your computer. I have reported these folks to the Microsoft folks. I was told they can't find them to make them stop. But 2 months ago, I like many of you answered the phone from these guys. I am not sure how they did it but by the time I answered they were in my computer. Next thing I know they are asking for 99.00 for protection. When I declined they said well we will just lock you out of your computer. They did just that! I had to purchase a new hard drive.
When I spoke to Microsoft they told me 99.00 was cheap they charged some people 250.00. I have now blocked that number from my landline. Good Riddance. - JoeyDee replies to DonnaThere's no way they can get into your computer from a phone call. You either have to have gone to a malicious web site and gotten malware, or you would have had to give them permission to connect remotely.
- NoonespecialCalled me twice, says is calling from Windows to let me know that my computer having critical issues. Asked her who she is calling and she replied " you"-- Yes, but what's my name?? You have called me twice with the same issue". Told her I'm on the do not call list and she's been warned not to call me again.

- RebaI get calls from the same.. shows up on my caller ID. I have gotten calls saying my computer is at threat or something. I said I don't know what your talking about. Then I said, my husband is a police officer I will let you speak to him so you can describe how our computer is compromised. They hung up..
- Joanne| 1 replyCaller ID on ATT landline was from John Peterson, said her name was Summer White (with a middle eastern accent) . Said she was calling about our Windows computer. Have to wonder if a real John Peterson from Mass. know these scammers are using his number for long distance calls?
- Upset replies to josephpeusGot the same call just today. I want to thank you for your post. When I asked caller to speak with an American, I was transferred to another person and when I told him I thought it was a scam and I was going to report this phone number to the Police department caller hung up.
- VERY Irritated CitizenJust got the second call from this jerk, I yelled at him the first time to "remove our number from his list and DO NOT ever call us again!" I've received many similar calls from different numbers, but all with some guy with a foreign accent telling me he's calling from Windows regarding our computer (I don't think they actually say Microsoft when they call us), to which in the beginning I replied, "we don't have a Windows computer, we have a Mac," which is true. After several calls, I actually had one idiot tell me that I was lying, that there was no way I could not have a Windows computer. Trust me, it got ugly after that. They have left us alone for about six months or so, but now they're at it again. Whoever this Peterson guy is, he'd better check that his identity hasn't been stolen. I did call the number back, and there was no answer. I intend on researching how to report these guys to the Do Not Call list, since all of my numbers have been on that since about 2008, and there's got to be a way to enforce it.
- Caller: John H. Peterson
- Maxwell EdisonYup, the ol Microsoft scam from Pakistan or India. Caller breaking up with bad reception, but claims he is in New York. "This is not a scam".
How could anybody legit actually trace a "message from the computer saying it needs help" to a specific unlisted phone number like mine? ANSWER: It CAN'T!
I threatened to call the FBI, and the guy just laughed saying "go ahead...we're not in the US so we can't be caught by your FBI".
There ya go!- Caller: SCAM
- Call type: Prank
- Maxwell replies to JoanneJohn's number was either picked at random or his phone was phracked. They probably bill all their overseas calls to his number. Ha ha John!
- joseRepeated hang up calls from John h peterson. I am on the do not call list. Seems that since i joined the list i just get more scam calls.
- EdCaller was a lady with a very strong Indian accent saying that Microsoft had been trying to get in touch with me for a few weeks due to an issue with my computer. I played along for a couple of minutes before asking her if she thought I was really going to fall for this sort of scam. She said "Yes", haha. I told her to try it again with someone who doesn't know anything about computers. She hung up on me, lol.

Totally A Scam - Cindy in DallasCaller I.d. Just says Massachusetts. Didn't answer, didn't leave a message.
- McBecDidn't answer the call because I didn't recognize the number. They left no message. However at 6:26 AM, this phone call was extremely intrusive! The only call I would answer at that hour would be a family member.
