- CHICAGO| 9 repliesGot a call from the IRS using this number.
- Caller: "IRS"
- MJG replies to CHICAGO| 1 replyI doubt that was really the Internal Revenue Service - more likely a scammer trying to extort money from you..
- steve weindel| 1 replyI just got the call also, sounds like a scam to me. They said I owed back taxes, and wanted me to run to the back and send them money

sounds like a scam - Slim replies to steve weindelThere is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

This was the first time being called from this number. - concerned 2| 1 replyI got the same call from this number. With a very prominent accent, he said his name was Jack Lewis from the IRS and that I owed $5986. When I asked what SS# he was dealing with he hung up. It concerns me that he had my correct address and phone number,
- Nonscammer replies to Concerned in GeorgiaThe number is for a farmers insurance agency. They know it's a scam... don't take it out on them(which is what i unfortunately did). Scammers probably cloned the number.
- that guy replies to concerned 2You have a resume out with your number and address on it somewhere....
- TJ replies to MJGThese scammers somehow aquire a USA number, this call originated from Haiti! I had a call from these same scammers from Egypt from a 2024700615 number. The IRS usually contacts people by mail first and you can call them on a toll free number. The scammers are trying to prey on your fears and ignorance... block these numbers and never give out bank account information or credit/debit info. When the real IRS sets up payment plans they mail you the paperwork, or you just mail in a check.
- TJ replies to steveIf you have ever entered a contest and supplied your cell number or email, they sell your info to scammers. I started getting tons of weird calls and emails after entering the publisher sweepstakes. Every single day I have to block a new Emailer and Phone numbers from Britain, Egypt, Haiti, or others. They may be routing these calls through various cities or hubs. Do not pay anything or provide personal information!!! The IRS will never have you wire money! Always check and recheck and verify your contacts! Don't panic!
- nancyautomated call. said it was about a suit and to call back. number she gave was same as the caller. be careful!
- dave hassellgot a call from this number saying i owed taxes.
- Caller: the IRS
- Call type: Debt collector
- LisaThis is a scam. Don't call back. ignore and block
- Turtle LadyReceived 2 of these automated calls today saying I was being sued by the IRS. I had my IRS refund stolen a few years back, and let me tell all the people who read this. The IRS contacts you by MAIL! THEN REGISTERED MAIL. Never ever do they call!!! There is a toll free number to call the IRS. When I spoke with the IRS, it is when I called them, they never called me. This took 2 years to clear up. DO NOT CALL THAT NUMBER!!!!!!
- PNutI have been receiving calls from this number for a few weeks. Finally, they started leaving voice mail messages. I have tried calling back, and was finally successful reaching someone. A man with a heavy accent informed me that they were the IRS and I owed taxes. Like others have said before, the IRS does not contact you by telephone to inform you of anything. It's always in writing. After the man informed me that I owed money to the IRS, I told him, "you're not the IRS, so cut the crap," to which he responded, "well, [***] if you knew we weren't the IRS why did you call."
- Caller: Fake IRS
