- Skymall| 1 replyI received a call from this number 509-588-7563. The man had a heavy Indian accent claiming that he was calling on behalf of the IRS, He said that they were going to "sue" me for several thousand dollars. When asked to send the info in writing, there was a pause and he hunged up on me. However, he had my address and social security number and that worries me a lot. Where do one denounce these calls? The FBI? The IRS? Please help!

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail. - CWG40 replies to SkymallTotal scam. Originates in either India or Pakistan. Block and ignore. DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

Could barely understand the caller because of his heavy, heavy Indian accent. He asked me for my name, which I wouldn't supply. I asked him to give me my name, and he mumbled something that didn't even remotely resemble my name. I called him on his [***] and he called me a [***] and told me he wanted to [***] me up the ass. V. entertaining.
- Pat Gross| 1 replyI got a call from an agent with name and badge number given who informed me that I was being sued by IRS because IRS did an audit last November and found out I miscalculated my income tax. They are trying hard to contact me to pay otherwise I have to hire a lawyer to appear in the Federal court in Washington DC. They want me to first give them my ID and bank account number and online password before they check if I can pay now because IRS may have already put a lien to my bank account......

Many of these use #'s that are from outside the US and act like a 900 number would here domestically. They charge your phone like $80/minute if you call them back. And because they are outside the US, you have no recourse to get your money back!
***The IRS will NEVER initiate any contact with you over the phone!*** Their first contact will be via a letter in your mailbox. They also give you a toll free # to return their call any time they do actually call you.
