- AnonymousThe guy leaves a threatening bulls$it and illegal message threatening court and by not returning the call you will automatically waive your right to council.
It's obviously a desperate boiler room collection freelancer or company trying to make some money for the holidays.
Don't answer the call, don't return it, just block it. It's a waste of time and don't believe anything they say.- Caller: Collection Agency
- Call type: Debt collector
- Vicky II have got couple threatening calls from this number trying to scam me. This number needs to be blocked. They don't even say the company name.
- WiWilliams
- Caller: John Stevenson of pretrial intervention
- Liz| 1 replyThis number called me, too. Would I really have to go to court?? I'm a bit nervous. I owed $70 to a doctor's office, but I pushed it to the bottom of my list of bills, thinking it could wait.
- Caller: John Stevenson, Pre-Trial Court
- Call type: Debt collector
- mari| 2 repliesI got a all from this number telling me they are inverstigators and that if I do not pay the payday loan today they will issue a warrant for my arrest and I will go to jail
- Call type: Debt collector
- CWG40 replies to LizThey are basically debt collectors. And are trying to scare you into paying them something. They do not even ID their own company when you call 'em. Any company that won't ID themselves properly is most likely some sort of scam.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them. if you can find them. - CWG40 replies to mariTotal scam. Debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter. You can't be arrested for being in debt. Being in debt is not a crime. These people are basically scam artists. Only judges issues warrants and they are only issued to duly constituted law enforcement officers and they are only served by duly constituted law enforcement officers. Debt collectors have no influence on the criminal justice system and they have no powers of arrests in ANY case. DEBT COLLECTORS DO NOT ISSUE WARRANTS. PERIOD!

What scares us is that they provided us with his information of which we don't know where they got it from. They use all this legal terminology and sound so professional, but when you ask them more questions, they don't seem to know much about it.
Please help identify these conman.- Caller: n/a

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - tommy smithGot call stating I owed financial company money and had two felony warrants for me.
- Cherrae PiersonThis company keeps calling me and making threats. I have already filled one complaint against them when they called me on 12/16/2014. They just called again today.

- Andrea replies to mariThey TOTALLY told me the same thing! Said I had pending felony charges for a payday loan. I said well this is crazy I have never had one. As I explained I work for a law firm and in order to get a warrant a judge has to issue an order what county is the order filed with so I can call to get to the bottom of this! He kept saying I am not trying to give you a hard time, I said I do not care if you are you do not call someone and state that you were just given paper work today and that felony charges are going to be charged by the close of business if I do not pay. I asked for the company who I supposedly owe money to,he said he did not know. I said well who do I call to fix this, I can only connect you to a representative ok so connect me, he comes back on and says they are closed. I said so I will then have a warrant by 5pm, no actually 7pm. I said end of business is 5pm well I will put this case on hold. Oh so now you have control over a court issued felony warrant. He got rude and hung up on me! THIS IS CRAZY BIZZARRE!

- mdWe received this call also from someone claiming to be John Stevenson pre trial lawyer. They said if we didn't return the call we would face criminal charges. I know these calls would be illegal if legitimate, but they bothered my husband so we returned the call. After a considerable time on hold, a man answered and said he was investigating a person whose name I do not remember. I explained I did not know that person and to stop calling me. Today I got a call from 908-219-6550 stating they were calling from check mediations. Same type of call. Most likely same scammers. Do not return these calls. In America, you cannot be jailed for failure to pay a debt unless it is a criminal fine. Even then, you would NOT receive an automated call. You would get notice in writing. I wish I knew how to block these calls.
- Caller: John Stevenson/Check Mediations
- Call type: Debt collector
- hexxussCalled from TWO different numbers, both say they can't accept calls incoming. 908-208-4669. Robocall, which is illegal unless they have express written permission (FCC regulations passed in 2013). They're ALSO calling someone who declared bankruptcy & has NO credit cards!! I was truly looking forward to talking to a real person to drag them through the hot coals on every law they broke, and then contact my bankruptcy attorney to slap them into some time next year!! Alas, unless I can get through, I can't verbally eviscerate them. I never get scared by bogus debt collection calls, especially when they're breaking a MULTITUDE of Federal laws to make them. They fail to identify who they are calling for, specifically (in the first 2-3 sentences WHY they are calling) AND it's a robocall. ALL illegal telemarketing practices... I'll try calling them again later.
- Caller: Illegal Debt collector John Stevenson
