- BigA replies to TygerkatPossibly not. Too get approved for financing you need to have your credit checked. Debt collectors are allowed to access those files and may also be able to get notified if something new comes in.

- Devon replies to tlw04| 1 replyThey can collect up to 7 years. If your at year 6 and admit the debt being yours, the time starts all over. Never admit to any debt over the phone.
- Anonymous replies to DevonDepends on where you are from, Devon. In Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, the statute of limitations is two years. In Quebec, it's three years. In British Columbia, P.E.I. and New Brunswick, it's six years. The key thing here is that Canadian law does not allow a person's debt to go beyond ten years. So even if I have not named a province, debt does fall off in that province within ten years. Regardless of all of this, the people at this number try to threaten and demean you into compliance with what they want and will talk over you if they don't like what you are saying. They try to get any kind of affirmative, and I would not put it past them to try to cut up a recording in a way that suits their needs. The best thing to do is block the number, but the advice on page 1 here regarding sending a letter disputing the debt is also a valid option if the phone calls are really disturbing your well-being, job, or anything else. I say that because I have heard of people being called at work, and this of course ends up making the employee look bad to the employer, so in those cases one might need to file a formal dispute.
- COI only just moved home from overseas and got my phone number today. Within minutes of turning the phone on this number was ringing me. And hasn't stopped. I wonder if it's possible I inherited the number from someone with bad debts. Blocked

- CathyI am getting calls daily and not answering. But I have a whistle handy now and going to answer it and wait for them to answer and blow out their ear drums. Calls start before 7 a.m. and end around 8:39 at night! So annoying, We have no credit and also on the do not call list.

- MattCalled repeatedly Saturday morning and again Monday at 7 am. Looking for my gf apparently. I told them where to go lol
- Katie| 1 replyThis number has called me over 100 times in a week and a half. They are calling about a Rogers bill that I have been disputing for about 15 years now. Sending a letter can help but what happens with me is that I send a letter to the collection agency and they wait a little while and sell the debt to a different agency and it starts all over again.

- BigA replies to KatieSo, have you consulted Canadian Debt Collection Laws to see what your options are? Have you consulted an attorney to see what your options are?
- KellseyThey called every hour of every day .
I finally had enough and answered. No one on the other line , heavy breathing . I snapped . They yelled at me, saying I should pay off my debts . I don’t have anything going on. He was rude and laughing and said he’s gonna keep calling . I said I’m not gonna give you scammers any money. He sounds young, under thirty . Nice scam guys !- Call type: Scam suspicion
- Paul Vance| 1 replyThese people are scam artists.... they refuse to commit to anything physical as in me hand delivering a bill I never heard of.
They lie and try to side track you on the phone and it is advisable to all who get calls from these parasites to go the legal routes to know your rights on debt collection modes.
i contacted said debtor if they have anything on the records about me in debt collection and they had no idea what I was referring to.
