If as many people as they harass do this back to them, maybe they will find another way to make a living.......They are the lowest form of life. - stopcollectorsintheirpath replies to newfie chick| 1 replyThey are not calling from scotia bank they are lying to you. They are calling from ARC accounts recovery corp. they are a collection agency that goes after dead accounts. tell them not to call you anymore, if they do again, tell them they lied to you and that you are gonna call the crtc and have their liscense revoked. Don't let them get to you. They are there to collect and they don't care what you say or do. You have rights. Technically if the debt is older then 7 years it is what I call a dead account. they are trying to restart a dead account that you can just say forget it! if they continue to harass you tell them you will be dealing with the Ombudsman, along with the Police, since they lied claiming to be Scotia Bank.
- Milton replies to stopcollectorsintheirpathThe CRTC doesn't regulate collection agencies, ARC doesn't collect "dead" accounts and you can't stop collection calls by verbally telling them not to call you.
The statute of limitations doesn't apply to how long you owe money, only how long it can be a public record and/or how long they have to sue you. 7 years is how long the credit bureaus can record your debt but you aren't absolved from paying it until you either pay it, settle it or file for bankruptcy no matter how much time passes. - DmitryIm in Toronto, they called me, I don't bother checking voicemail, judging from replies above looks like a spam call
- MidNyteStorm1 replies to newfiechickCall on behalf of a bank doesn't mean its the bank itself. That said, I wouldn't trust anyone claiming to call on behalf of a bank.
- PoohTrying to collect on very old bills that were included in bankruptcy or previously paid off in full.
- Call type: Debt collector
- Barbara TubbI just got a call from this number, but was at the library and my phone was on vibrate, they did not leave a message on my voicemail. just letting you know.

- creativenotmadI'm single. I fell into this solution by coincidence. It applies to me may not apply to anyone else. In late 2010 I ported over my home phone to freephoneline.ca I was tired of paying the bills and mostly used my cell phone anyway.
If you don't buy time to make calls out over the internet the service doesn't cost you anything. You can receive calls and have them forwarded to your email or get them online. It's like an answering service the voice isn't even yours.
I had always and continued to give out that number on every credit card, car loan and furniture financing app. Don't know why just did.
In early 2011 my business went bankrupt the recession/depression. I paid some stuff off but soon the rest started coming after me - to the internet phone number. At first they phoned it as much as 10 times a day now almost 3 years later they phone it maybe 4 times a week and no longer leave messages - which I was never bothered with anyway. Most now are from ARC the lowest of the low. They disguise them as local phone number calls, 1-800 calls, no number calls. You can also go online and download the activity so you can recognize the numbers.
I thought about bankruptcy even saw a trustee but then I thought why? My credit rating is crap anyway. The steps of a bankruptcy and costs are ridiculous. I live in Sai Gon, Vietnam teaching English I've been here for a year. They still call the number back in Canada - and I refuse to answer their calls to tell them where I am. It's my revenge :) I figure you have to get creative.- Caller: ARC Collection Agency
- Call type: Debt collector
- HamptonYou can make them stop by:
1. Answer the call and get the company name, company address, person's name and your account number.
2. Tell the person that you will be contacting them in writing. They have to accept this, although they may keep calling. Most leave you alone for a couple of weeks.
3. Send them a registered letter stating that you dispute the account and wish to have it settled in court. Period. Also state that you will contact the BBB should they disregard your written notice. Since it's registered, you have the record of when they received it. They can't contact you any longer once you have notified them in writing that you wish to go to court.
It's a bit of work but it works like a charm, or at least until they sell your account to another company and the process starts over again. Eventually they'll list you as an educated debtor and leave you alone.- Caller: ARC
