Received a recorded call saying that I was being audited and that they had discovered that I was hiding income or something from them.  I apparently owe them money and it needed to be rectified immediately.  Very heavy accent and identified himself as Jonathan Wright. I don't get it.  is the scam just to scare people?  How would they have gotten their money if I had fallen for it?

I received a call stating they were the IRS and a warrant has been put out for me unless I pay them now.
I told them they were on a recorded line. They hung up.
I called back & they refused to talk to me.
I am pretty sure I'm off their list now. LOL

The point is to scare you into thinking you're going to jail or your house or car will be repossessed, or your wages garnished. Whatever it takes to scare you into thinking you have to do something to stop it. That usually consists of you paying them some lesser amount (so you think you're getting off easy) by some method of payment that cannot be reversed (when you realize you've been scammed.) Those methods vary, but include charging a Green Dot money card and giving the scammer the card number and PIN, or using Western Union to send the cash.

It sounds like it would be an obvious scam, but clearly people fall for it, otherwise they wouldn't keep at it.

5/22/15 just received a voice mail message on my cell phone from Jonathan Knight from the IRS stating extremely urgent that I return his call as fraud has been detecting on my taxes and I need to pay immediately and that I cannot hide.  Very thick Indian accent.  Maybe he should pay me for wasting my time!

I just received this same SCAM phone call today! They left me a voice mail saying "This is Jonathan Knight of the Internal Revenue Service.  This is an urgent and time sensitive matter and you must call back immediately, due to you conducting fraud and misconduct with the IRS."
Please note, the caller's voice was a heavy Indian accent.

I always type in the phone # of a phone call I don't recognize, and immediately saw this was the same SCAM!

I really hope no one falls for this Baloney!

this is ridiculous, im a young female and got a call from "Michael John" what an original name huh? No only that but he had a suuper thick Indian accent he told me I have a warrant out for my arrest and that ill be arrested 45 min after we hung up. I honestly started to give in being young and neive I thought maybe I did mess up on my taxes shhhhit, however started coming to my senses about the sketchy stuff that was going on. Came to realize it was a total scam I owe 2250 or 19,000 please,,,i don't even make that much for my taxes to really even be that much of a deal. Scared the heck out of me, but DO NOT give into this!

Checked my phone messages after work today and received a nasty message about tax fraud from IRS. Jonathan Knight gave me a desk number to call back 46719. Knew I did not owe any taxes but it was scary. Strong accent.

"719 I'm at church(?) at the hand is extremely time sensitive and urgent at after(?) all we found that there was a floor-and(?) ... on your contact(?) with you are hiding from the federal(?) government needs to be rectified immediately. So do return the call as soon as you receive the message. Okay this is Jonathan Knight from the IRS."

Left on Voice Mail System attached to phone.

I got the same thing he said his name is Jonathon Night. He sounds Oriental. I guess they think were stupid.He ststing that Im doing Tax fraud and that their going to audit me. lol

Every time I block the number they call from they use another number Johnathan knight stupid idiots

Tried to say I owed the Irs money and that I was hiding from the federal gov. And Every time I block the number the person calls from another number
