I received a call from this number on Saturday morning.  The guy, with an accent, claimed to be Agent Mike Davis of the IRS. Isn't impersonating a Federal Agent a felony?
Maybe this should be referred to our do nothing Attorney General

CES, you are an idiot.  Have them shut down, yourself.

The caller is some coward hiding behind a magicJack device plugged in at some God-forsaken corner of the world where there is Internet service.  He's no better than a common criminal using a magicJack device and your fear the same way a common thief uses a toy pistol hidden in the pocket of his overcoat to make a bulge that looks like a real gun.

You can verify that this is a magicJack number by searching for it at http://www.phonevalidator.com .

This scam has been extensively researched at
http://www.pindropsecurity.com/consumer-fraud ... irs-phone-scam/ and it was found that magicJack numbers are frequently used, and many of the scammers are operating out of India.  There is even an audio recording of a call returned to one of these numbers and a written transcript of the recording contained in links from the Pindrop Security blog.

MagicJacks are readily obtainable outside of the United States for about $100 US and can come with up to a year of free calling to the U.S. and Canada.  In India, see, for example,
    http://magicjack.in .
So it doesn't take long to turn a profit, even if only 0.1% of the people they call are stupid enough to believe the scammers.

In addition to the regular reporting channels, e.g., the Department of the Treasury, the FTC, and/or your local state attorney general's office, you might also report the abuse to YMAX Corp., the wholly owned subsidiary of the company that sells magicJacks.  YMAX Corp. assigns phone numbers to magicJack devices.  I have seen reports that they are pretty good at responding to complaints and may be able to permanently shut off a magicJack device, if necessary, so that it can never be used again.

The YMAX Corp. main web page is at:
    http://www.ymaxcorp.com
and their site giving information on how to lodge a complaint is at:
    http://www.ymaxcorp.com/contact.html

Note that the "contact" website gives a clickable link to a "live chat" where you can make your complaint.

I received a call from this number, didn't answer it.  Said they were from the IRS.  I called back from my work number which goes through an exchange so they can't recognize the number.  The person on the other end hung up immediately when I asked who they were with.  I called back and no answer.  What a surprise.  I can't believe someone would fall for this.

We received a voice mail on our land line phone on 6/5/14 at 9:17am from a man with a thick Indian accent calling himself Sylvester Jones with the Internal Revenue Service. His return number which also what came up on caller id is 585-633-1814. There were parts of the message that were incomprehensible.

Parts I think I understood said "This is a threat and extremely time sensitive. Don't try to disregard this message and do return the call as soon as possible before an illegal allegation takes place. We have determined that there is a deficiency in your income tax"

I am aware that it is a scam and have not called back or given any information to them.

I just got one of those calls.  I called back doing a *67 to block my number followed by 585-633-1814 and listened to some [***] music for a minute.  I played along with his game and then told him to go *&$^ his scammer self after two minutes.  His response was the worst cussing I have heard - I really got under his skin!  I told him that I did not know that IRS agents could talk like that on the job and that I wanted his ID number.  I gave it right back not letting him get a word in then I hung up as he was obviously SO PISSED that someone confronted him.

Got a call this morning.  The scammers have gotten an automated female voice now to bypass the accent issue and sound more legitimate.

Message left on phone machine for landline in area code 607 (southern tier, New York state); male, thick accent, in a mechanical monotone, as if reading from a script.  I listened closely in attempt to transcribe:
"… This message is intended for [my name]… Either you or … attorney … extremely time-sensitive … My name is Sylvester Jones calling you from IRS Internal Revenue Service 585-633-1814 …  don't disregard [?] … call as soon as possible …illegality of tax list [?] … income tax [?] … Goodbye and take care."
Almost completely unintelligible, except for name, number and "Goodbye and take care"(!)  Thanks to this site, i found link to IRS Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, where I found a form to report this scam. "Goodbye and take care!"

You're a fool if you give these people ANY information.  They are a fxxxking spammer.

I, too, got a call on my voice mail from 585-633-1814.  Couldn't understand him because of his heavy accent but was able to distinguish "IRS" in the message.  Did a search and thanks to you all, I know he is a fraud.
