- NewmanReceived a call today from someone indicating they were from Dept of
Vital Stats and had some ID with my name handed into them. I indicated that I had not lost any ID and they proceded to ask about my date of bith.
I foolishly gave them that info and they said it's not the same person and
hung up. The call bothered me and I have now reported it to Phone Busters- Call type: Unwanted
- mikeThis guy called my work, I answered "******** ltd., mike speaking." After a short delay he says "is this a business?" I said, "uhhh, yea???" Then he just hung up.
Wow, that's not fishy at all. - C replies to JasonOh interesting.. I did get a call on my cell from this # about a week ago but I did not pick up becuase I did not recognize the # .. Good to see I didn't now. I never give my cell to any bank or CC company anyhow so.. I'm sure it is a scam.
- Vivi replies to zI got a phone call from this number today at 3:30 AM! I didn't answer but I've been trying to call back but it's not possible. My husband also got a phone call from them and didn't answer as well. Good we could read all these info before get in touch!
- andyJust received a call from this number 10 minutes ago from some representative claiming to be from Yellow Pages. She proceeded to read out my business address to confirm that I was the boss. Then she tried to peddle some trial package related to Yellow Pages online advertising. She was blabbering on and on like as if she was reading from a prepared script. Not sure if it was because of her command of English, or the understanding of it, but when I interjected in between to ask "What's the cost?" (at least 4 times), she ignored me and kept droning on and on. Ironically enough, I had a pretty bad past experience with Yellow Pages advertising in both soft and hard copy, more so with Internet advertising. So the mention of "Yellow Pages" was already an instant turn-off (free trial or whatever nonsense).
When I did *finally* get her attention, she refused to take NO for an answer and kept asking me why I was not interested. I don't normally have patience for this, but I am a businessman, so I politely and *FIRMLY* explained to the person (at least 3 times!). She finally got the message after those few times, and that was that. I have since logged the number in a text file for future reference. - Vancouver101Just got a call from that #, didn't answer. And the auto-dialar left a message! Amazing. It urged me to call CIBC within the next 48 hours and left an 800-number that I should dial. I suspect this is real and they're desperate for me to activate my new CC.
However, I believe other scam dialers are spoofing that number - some of the stories reported above definitely seem like scam calls. - ckaeA person called my business and said they were from the Canadian Merchant Association and wanted to get me better rates on my Mastercard, visa fees. They wanted me to fax over my statement for a "free" consultation on how they can lower my rates.
She wouldn't or couldn't answer any of my questions and kept repeatiing her speel.- Caller: Canadian Merchant Association

- AngeI got a call today from this number. I was at work so I didn't answer. The weird thing is that the first call was blocked and the second was this number. A minute later they used a different number (604-628-2598), but the same thing happened. When I called back it didn't ring or anything. It just went beep, beep, beep.
Weird! - WilIt's a scam. Scammer called from a VOIP call centre that block their Caller ID. However, some providers / routing paths will not allow invalid caller id's. in this case, a voip access point (i don't know the technical term) local to the destination is used as the originating caller ID.
in short a scammer called from a call centre that blocks outgoing Caller ID's so you won't be able to call them back. however, the invalid CID was replaced with a voip access point. there are HUNDREDS of voip access points in any given local by various providers, don't bother trying to block all of them. - bobjust got a call from this number(604-678-9476). It was received at 10:33pm on Boxing Day. Whoever this is just remained silent for about 35 seconds. Then , pretending I was asking someone a question , I said , in a really quite voice"You got it?". I then spoke into the phone and said"OK, your calls just beem traced, I'll be seeing you shortly". They very quickly hung up the phone, lightning fast.
- AA| 1 replyJust got a call from this number, about an add I had on CL. I kept asking him where he was calling from, etc, and then they just tried to talk over me,and then I hear "oh [***]" and they hung up

- FrankYup. A rep pretending to be a CIBC representative asking for my postal code and DOB called. I said, let me put you on hold while I phone the police to verify this number. Guess what - he just hung up - ever so quickly. PS - you can't phone back. It rings quickly and goes into a high speed busy tone.

- TheDoubleO replies to zIntersting that I just got a call from this same number but now they are 'claiming' that they are some Children's Charity. They asked from someone here by name. When they were informed that that person was not in the country they asked when he was returning and when they were told that we did not know, they hung up. Calling the number back gets a 'strange busy signal'

SCAM or CON artist looking for personal information. - BurnabyI guess they have re-invented themselves.....Just received a call from an idiot scammer woman who said she worked with World Tech Support and her name was Vanessa - after I probed for this info. She started out by saying she has received information about malicious material that has recently been downloaded from our computer. She wanted to talk to the owner of the computer. I totally called her out on this, started laughing, but worry that some naive or maybe elderly may be taken advantage of. I have also reported this to www.recol.ca which will take you direct to the Anti Fraud center of Canada http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/english/home-eng.html
