Left a voicemail asking about a parent of a friend of mine, saying that I was used a reference to give her a call back.  Hectic schedule didn't allow me to call back that day or the next but they called me again and I recognized the phone number.  Being that my friend's mom is job searching, I answered the call.  Immediately hear "this call will be recorded..."  and then a woman named Jamie asked me if I knew "name of parent" and how I could get in touch with her.  Sounding fishy, I asked what this was in reference to and the response was "a personal matter and that the phone number they have has been disconnected."  Now confirming that this was NOT a job reference call from a potential employer. I said I did not have a phone number or address.  Then I was asked if I could pass along a message. I said I could only pass it along to my friend and you can hope it reaches her.  I was given this 800 number for a call back number: 1-866-394-4503.  I should have known the call was fishy when they called me by my maiden name and I've been married over 4 years.  Anyways, Do NOT give them any information.  And legally, they can only contact a third party member once (and only if they cannot contact the debtor) or they violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  If they tell you they have a debt, that is also a violation.

I second the recent anonymous post of May 13, 2016. Everything he/she said happened to me verbatim. So another creditor (Pioneer Credit) tries to work around the law. Do not given them any reason to contact you a 2nd time. Report all repeat contacts to the Fair Credit Agency. Do not let them illegally harass you

Received an automated recording stating it was an (unidentified) attempt to collect on a debt.  Said to call (866) 304-4460.  I received the call at 4:15 and returned a call at 4:28, only to receive a recording stating they were closed.  I'm not delinquent on any bills/loans, etc.

I see no "Fair Credit Agency" in any US state or Federal building. We have the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, and attorneys general to gather complaints. However, when any consumer debt collector "tries to work around the law", citizens can use the same law against the offenders rather than wait for a rescue.

SCAM CALL.  DO NOT RESPOND.

Just got the same call from Navient.  Automated call saying it was a debt collection with an 866 number to call back.  I did not get the whole 866 number but my caller ID captured the number the call came from 607-304-4460. Scam.

Call from Chelsea Smith from 607-304-4460 (Binghamton, NY), went to voicemail, left message that a friend, which was a valid name, gave me as a reference (had my actual name) and to call them back on 866-394-4503 with Ref ID#.  Appears to be a debt collector fishing for information.  I know the friend has outstanding student debt he can't pay.  I didn't call back, just blocked the number.

Couldn't give me reason for calling just wanted a number to a relative. Told them not to call back

Pushy caller, on a recorded line, looking for a possibly former employee. "Recorded line" means debt collector most of the time.
No one by that name...no one by that name...no one by that name...entire company directory...no one by that name...

BTW, this number has legions of complaints when web searched.

Caller ID showed: 607-304-4460, man by the name of Michael said he was with Pioneer Credit Recovery Inc. and looking for Tina Young. Grrr ... I am so tired of getting calls for Tina and/or Justin Young. Going on year 3 with their crap. Obviously they owe money to someone and their almost 3 year old phone number is the one I got! Michael gave the number for his company: 866-394-4503, said he would mark my number as not a valid number for the Youngs. I'm not holding any hope for not being contacted again, 888-431-2489 told me the same thing back in September 2016!

The number on my caller ID states "NAVIENT". Well here is a little information about them. They are the nations largest student loan services apparently and federal regulators are not impressed with them according to this article (https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/01/18/busines ... t.html?referer=).

I admittedly have delinquent student loan debt, but this is the pushiest company ever. They called my place of work BEFORE calling my cell (claiming they've tried my cell) and even though I said no less than 6 times I was at work, very busy, and couldn't talk to them the person who called kept talking over me and then transferred me to a supervisor. He finally backed off when I said I'd told them 6 times this wasn't a good time and if I had to say it again I would hang up. They promised to not call me for 24 hours, but they called within 18. I do not plan to return any of their calls. I am exploring other options for handling my debt than dealing with them.

Asked for me by name. Then asked for my date of birth. When I asked why he said "A private business matter." So I put him on speaker & he got nervous. When I refused to give my date of birth he said thank you & hung up. No doubt trying to steal my identity of money!

They call everyday around the same time, evenings and weekends when Navient is closed. No one is ever on the other end. It's an automated call and gives a number to contact about a debt. I have student loans through Navient and checked my loans online and followed up with a phone call. My loans are in good standing. The number they called is my parent's number and it isn't even on my file at Navient. Navient did not call! This company is using Navient's name illegally.
