I received call from this number a few times. I picked it up. It is a recording saying: this is an emergency message for "xxxx" (I can't tell the name, but it's definitely not me). And then it hung up.

who are these people and why they calling me

That is a BRILLIANT idea, I am going to do that too!

They just called me and said personal info ,I hung up because they asked for me in my maiden name which I have not used in 30 years

Not surprising that the name of the company is different for many people, despite being the same number.  By law you can request a debt validation and the company has 30 days to send paperwork detailing all of the charges and fees that make up the amount they are trying to collect.  Since many companies can't provide this information, they have no choice but to stop attempting to collect it (if unable to validate it) and will dump it into "another" company where they cycle starts all over.  Get too many harassing calls from one of these places?  Send them a cease and desist letter; by law you can ask them to stop calling and send any information by mail.  And be sure to ask for the debt validation (you can Google websites to lead you through it).  Don't feel threatened by these people to make payments over the phone and/or take them at their word that you owe what they say.  They make their money by intimidating people over the phone and hoping to get payments without showing you any paperwork as to how they arrived at the balance they want you to pay.  Most of these companies pick up old debts for pennies on the dollar and then tremendously inflate the interest/fees even though they didn't pay anywhere close to what they are asking you to fork over.  Make them validate it within 30 days!  And send it Certified Mail, so you have proof they received your request!

I received calls from this number everyday.  When I answer, the phone goes blank.  The only thing that shows on my phone is the number and LOCAL OFFICE.

How in the heck can this be legal stop the unwanted calls from this scam artist who claims to be collectors

I have received 5 calls on my cell phone from this number recently.  I recently had open-heart surgery and don't appreciate unwanted calls.  I am on NO CALLS which doesn't seem to matter to many companies.

I'm on "no call" and this company has been harassing me for several months.  When you press the number to stop the calls, they just have another person and number calling.  I've tried to talk to someone to try to stop these calls and they hang up and still harrass me.  I recently had open-heart surgery and find it difficult to run to answer a telephone phone which is nothing important.

I dont know who these people are or what they are about. They call several times a week and it is getting very annoying. MAKE IT Stop

Then in the last 2 days I have received calls from:

which is a Hellertown, PA landline phone line.
These last 2 calls- I picked up on the 2nd or 3rd ring...Answered "Hello" multiple times and no response to me, just open air...I waited awhile and after nothing, disconnected....1st time, thought, Ok it is a wrong number, now today- the 2nd time, I researched it and found it was a company that had called me a couple of days ago, using a different number.  So, now they have been reported...
To report these callers.
go to the Federal Trade Commission's Website:  www.FTC.gov and to www.DoNotCall.gov - you can report on both of these sites and they will get nailed for impropper practices.

Just got of the phone with a [***] don't think they will call again. Called her anything but a white women. And not a thing she can do about it. She called me.

That is a great idea...can this be done from a cell phone?  If so...PLEASE tell me how to do this.  These people need to be stopped.
