If the caller doesn't leave a message, never call back.
If a caller is legitimate, they'll leave a number and a message and they won't keep calling.
If the caller is a scammer, then the number may be spoofed, so if you do reach someone, it may be an innocent party or it might be a non-working number.
If the caller is a scammer and you do get a real phone number, then all you are doing is confirming that they reached a valid number - and they'll sell your number to other scammers.
There is zero benefit to calling back. - Gompers replies to fed up in mo| 4 repliesWhy wait - why not just block it now?
- Gompers replies to Ph"What happened to the "do not call list" that our #is registered on?"
The DNC registry works very well - but only with legitimate telemarketers. It has no magical power to stop scammers from calling you.
The way it works is that decent companies submit their call lists to the FTC which then scrubs the numbers that are on the DNC list.
Of course, scammers do NOT submit their lists for scrutiny!
Also keep in mind that the scammers may be located anywhere in the world. They may be spoofing their caller ID and number and routing their calls through the internet. They could easily be outside US jurisdiction.
Telephone companies have been required for decades to connect all calls that were presented to them. That was to prevent phone companies from blocking calls from competitors. So don't blame the phone companies, either. - Gompers replies to Bill77| 1 reply"Caller located in Minneapolis, Minnesota,"
The caller could actually be located in Pakistan, spoofing the caller ID and number. - Gompers replies to SteveNo mo robo is GREAT!
- Gompers replies to "NEVER ANSWER""What do locksmiths have to do with back braces?"
The odds are that the scammer is spoofing the caller ID. - GET A JOBI asked 2 well know communications company how this Spoofing/ telemarketing occurs. In part it is as simple as what is required to obtain a phone number. You have to communications companies and other big business loose money if they are required to change what it takes to even get a number. When have to forfeit things like track phones. We lived very well without the brain dumbing devices we no consider absolutely necessary. I can only imagine that this telemarketing/spam/spoofing is also assisting terrorism in some way. Maybe if it was viewed as a threat to national security we would not be writing a comment. Insist with any big business you deal with that you do not want to talk with any call centers outside of US. ( banks, credit cards, etc.) Looked up a lot of these calls. They are coming from India Nigeria etc. Keep your number blocked at all times. Both land line and cell. Never answer a number you do not recognize. Make sure that you always customize your voicemail immediately. If you do not do this your voicemail will provide who ever is calling your cell phone number. ( This pertains to when you are using "call forwarding " calls to your cell phone from your land line.) Amazon and Best Buy have devices for land lines that seem to work quite well. Downloaded an APP called " Mr Number " and that to has helped to. The number 1-612-314-7926

- RJCalled and left no message - don't they figure out that if no one wants to talk to them they won't answer - they can waste their time all they want. I turn my ringer down and never know they call except on the id and I just delete the id's. Even the legitimate telemarketers can't win so they all may as well stop.

I actually answered this time and a recording announced I was receiving this message because someone at this number had requested information, which, of course, is a complete fabrication.
