Keep getting a fax beep when I pick up.

I get calls from this number every other day or several times a day, early morning or even late at night, always a fax machine beeping on the line filling up the space on my answering machine. It started the very next morning Bell Canada connected me, even before I had given my new phone number to relatives.

I get calls from then ALL the time... Grr

I get lots of calls in Ottawa from the 482 exchange, and it's always the BEEP ---- (long pause)---- BEEP, and it keeps doing this pattern for ever, sometimes for minutes after I hang up.
What a complete abuse of the telephone. The 688 exchange is also bad for garbage calls. I've contacted the CRTC and Bell, but they both claim that they can do nothing.
I don't think it's a fax machine, although I did at first. I think it's telemarketers that don't have enough live bodies at their end to talk to all the people they harass with their outgoing calls. Or it's some kind of auto-profiler that finds out when people are home so they can be harassed later by marketers. Total crap. I really wish I could stop this abuse.
