You were served by a REAL sheriff??  If so you can give us all the information on that summons - court involved & docket number, judge who signed off, date of trial, etc.

    The sheriff served you papers?

Well, there must have been more on those "papers" than the name and address of a law office.
How about you look again, and tell us  the court name and location,  the name of the judge, the plaintiff's attorney's name and Bar number, and the name of the company or person that is suing you, the date you are supposed to appear, and possibly a docket number.

Can you do that, to prove your statement, or did I ask for too much information?
Otherwise, we will have strong evidence you were NOT served, and are fibbing to us.

    >> somebuddy might be using this unlaw fully  <<

The Law Offices you mentioned actually exist ... but under a slightly different name.
Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., LPA
are collectors.  Since they are collectors, they fall under the FDCPA rules, including the following:

A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

    uncle sammy -

Two of us asked for some very specific information, so we could validate your claim.

You said you called the Clerk of Courts ("prothonotary").  Please verify the following information:
You called the protonotary using a phone number you found online ... NOT necessarily the one in the message to you.
    The Plaintiff is Discovery Bank
The Plaintiff's lawyer is Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., LPA
There is no court date, but there is a Docket Number (10305-15), and a specified "reply by" date.

Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., LPA called you sometime in the past?  On what date?
Did you get a snailmailed Validation Letter from them within 5 days of that phone call?
Of your own knowledge, do you really owe Discovery Bank some money?
Did you read the information at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

(The Erie County court records page is down right now, so I cannot validate your Docket Number)
(A search of Justia cases filed in Pennsylvania does not show that docket number)

Yes, the office you mentioned is a real "legal office".
However, since they are collectors, they MUST follow FDCPA rulings, including sending you a  written (Snailmailed) Validation Letter within 5 days of the first phone call.

We are trying to determine if you were really served, or you merely got a letter from the collector.
If you did not get the Validation Notice (as specified in https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection), you are not "legally" notified of debt.

Please try to answer the questions I posted in my earlier note.  Make sure your read https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection and assure both the collector and you have followed all the rules!

Here is the problem I have. First I am not sure what this is:  30420207 ca pit sjs
Second the docket number you gave is not correct.  There should a a date included in the docket number which would correspond to the date of filing.  It should be around 18 to 20 digits long with dashes not included.
It seems old that they would file in county court, unless the amount is over the $12,000 limit that they could sue for in district court.  How were these papers served?
Now it seems that you defaulted on a Discover card and they are taking you to court over it.  So the first question is did you have a Discover card, and if so did you stop paying on it?  If so, when?  Discover is a Delaware company and in Delaware, the SOL is 3 years.  Re:

    Big A

Thank you for the additional insights.
I wonder if the poster merely received an email from "The Sheriff" (and called the email "the papers"), or if the poster received some kind of snailmailed document from "the sheriff", or if somebody was impersonating a law officer, or ... well, it has to be said ... I wonder if uncle sammy is a shill.

Since he has not returned to this thread, it is looking more and more like "a shill" might be the answer, since my questions should not have been too difficult to answer.

Oh ... in your experience, have you ever heard of a docket number being issued, WITHOUT a court date or judge's name?

uncle sammy -  if you return ...

As you see, there are now three of us with questions only you can answer.
Your absence does not bode well.

The initial papers might not have a court date or judge's name.  They try to resolve the issues without scheduling a court date. What he describes is possibly the initial complaint, which he would have to answer within a specified amount of time or else the case would then go to the plaintiff. The first section of the case is all paperwork.  It might also go to arbitration.  They try to pay the judges as much as possible to do as little as possible.  But as I said, if this case had actually been filed, then the docket number would have started with a CV if I am not mistaken.  It would have at least included the year, since that is how they file their papers, by the year and then the rest of the docket number.  These papers are stamped when received by the prothonotory. PA has set regulations on how they may be served, which I am not going to divulge at this time to give uncle sammy a chance to tell us exactly how they were served.  I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at first, but since he has failed to answer any questions, I believe you are right.

It is from WELTMAN WEINBERG & REIS CO LPA.  I live in Ohio so the address is a Dublin, OH address for them.  I have been receiving random calls from them for months. I thought they were scams so I never answered.  I have never received any documentation from them but now they have went through the courts and are garnishing my wages.  It feels very sketching and I am having trouble getting any answers as to how I did not receive anything and yet it went through the courts with a judgement, which I have never received from the court, and now they just started garnishing my wages.

It is called "sewer service" and it is illegal.  You need to contact a consumer attorney and sue these people or else they will end up taking every penny you ever thought of having.  This is a well known criminal enterprise.

Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):
