Called but didn't leave a message.

I answered, they said they were debt collection company for AEP power company. I told them I don't have an account with them, the lady got real hateful I hung up. I've had the same power company for a decade so I figured it was a scam.

They called said they were trying to collect on a account that was paid off last year and closed.

Called at 6:50pm. Left no message.

I though they were actual debt collectors and gave them my address so they could send me paperwork regarding my debt.. Since I truly want to fix my credit. Then I checked online about them.. And everyone says they get sued by them! I'm super scared bc I gave them my new address :(!!!

If you owe a debt & Portfolio sends you a valid notice of validation by mail, verify the debt & make arrangements to pay it. Be sure to check the Statutes of Limitations regarding debt in your state first though. Portfolio is one of the nations largest buyers of Junk Debt.
If Portfolio does not send you anything by mail, ignore them. The FDCPA requires them to provide you with a notice of validation by mail. Not e-mail or fax. As far as being sued by them goes, don't be over concerned. You'll receive a summons if that was going to occur. It most likely never will. Portfolio has been spending as much time lately defending themselves in court as they have spent pursuing others.

You're okay, it is a Scam, If you do get paperwork from them take it to the Police Department, Fraud Department will handle that Problem for you.

CORRECTION  -- Never pay this trash agency ANYTHING -- PERIOD. That could drag you in to their fraud and re-set the statute of limitations
