- deanna replies to NameI gave them money before finding out about th r m too. Don't worry about giving your address. They've had mine and still NEVER contact me by mail. They DO call me from multiple phone numbers and blocked numbers though. I think the reason for sole use of phone contact may be related to legal reasons. Be careful. They use scare tactics and impersonate lawyers to try and trick you into giving them money.

Web page with contact information: http://www.portfoliorecovery.com/contact_us.html
BBB page with 1,320 complaints, a government action from the State of new York, and yet they get an A- rating? http://www.bbb.org/norfolk/business-reviews/d ... olk-va-51000164
Bizapedia has them as a Delaware Corporation started in 2007 as opposed to the information on the BBBB page that says 1996:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: http://consumerfraudreporting.org/stateattorneygenerallist.php - dirtesterIf you should mistakingly answer and get them on the line, do not agree to anything, and remember, if your debt is more than a certain age, you don't even owe them anything. This depends on your state. In Texas it is 3 years. They cannot sue you for anything. If they serve you and you have to show up with an attorney, and your debt is over age, you can file a counter suit and recover your attorney fees, lost time from work, and maybe even punitive damages. That is why they are always being sued.
