I just got a call from them, they asked for my brother and sister in law by name. What is weird is my number is new and my brother or sister in law does not have it

VERIFIED SCAM/FRAUD.  Confirmed with American Express that this is NOT legitimate.  Very sophisticated social engineering scam. The caller even tried to build confidence by saying that if I am concerned I should call Amex directly using the phone number listed on my card.  That was a bluff used to try to get your confidence.  I hung up and called American Express -- AMEX CONFIRMED THE SCAM.

FYI/Notes
- Caller ID shows as "AMERICANEXPRESS" (one word)
- Caller said he's calling from the "A.C.M.U." department at Amex.  This is an actual department at Amex.  They have done their research!
- Caller collected publicly available information about me before calling, presumably to build credibility.

Scary scam. They knew me, my wife's name, and my brother-in-law's name! This was in regard to a canceled card, which the real American Express validated. One giveaway: the male called talked and talked and talked.

This is a SCAM! I called AMEX to verify they needed to "clarify" issues on my accnt, it wasn't AMEX.

Been getting calls all day from 623-492-7187...about my American Express account. Buuuut I don't have an account with them so 🤷

I get two or three calls every day for a week. I do not have or want any business with them, but just searched the number to find it fraud. We should have a options to reply as an official  government officer to put them in jail.

They call, ask if my name is xxx xxx xxx xxx I said yes,    and don hear nothing more.    Then they call from another number, I dont ask. Just block.

Claims to be American Express, most likely a scam. Always call only the number on your card!

Scammer asked for the Owner. I asked who's calling. She gave her name and said American Express, recorded line. I asked for the cardholder's name. She thought for a moment, said "Kevin" and I said no one here by that name, wrong number, and hung up.

it's still a scam number.

Claims to be an AMEX rep and want to do business!

Relentless calls from this number claiming to be AMEX and a problem with my account.  Only problem I closed my AMEX years ago. Called the number from their website and they had no information on anyone trying to reach me so this is a phishing scam. Do NOT give your account numbers to anyone unless you call the company directly and initiate the call

If that unsubstantiated rumor were actually true (it's not) why would they need YOU to say "Yes" when anyone's voice would do? It's not as if you can be verbally identified by a single word.
