This company called my husband's cell phone asking for me via my maiden name and my married name. They listed our current address and said they had tried to deliver documents to my prior employer but had failed. They said they had legal documents that required my signature and I had 24 hours to respond. They also cited some case/account? number. They number they called me from was 626-427-2991.
I have no clue what this could be about. I have very old debts (7+ years old) but nothing recent.

Real legal servers do not call, they just show up.  I googled this company name and it comes up as real Estate agency. Its not unusual for extortion scammers to use a real business name to make themselves look/sound legitimate either though. More then likely anything you might owe, is SOL, check your states Sol, you can google that.   One important thing to remember if these losers have any of your personal information such as your social security number, date of birth or drivers license make sure you register with identity protection notify the credit agencies as well as your banks!!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

A Mark Hernandez spoke with me on my work phone and told me I owed about 1900.00 and would have my wages garnished to collect.  He gave me the name of a credit agency that I'd never heard of.

Mark from Newmark called me today. Very similar to the rest of 5 he's posts. Google voice #, asking if i received papers or went to court today, refusing to give me info on what it was regarding, and hung up on me. Called my work and there is no pending garnishments. I believe this to be a scam as well.

Just got a call yesterday from NewMark and Associates claiming I owe $1900.00 from a credit card that I don't recall having from 2009. "Oliver" spoke with me about this and I was able to postpone this for 24 hours to do a research on this so called company. Can't find any info on them. He stated that someone has attempted to serve me, but I am home all the time. Gave me case number and all info (personal). Phone number came from 626-470-7670. His "personal" number is 626-269-8946. So now I can tell him where to go!!!!

I just got a phone call from an Elizabeth calling on behalf of legal support services.  She told my voice mail that they have time sensitive legal documents that requires a signature.  She gave me the phone number 626-470-7670 and a file number to reference, and she said that either I or my attorney should call Newmark and Associates immediately.  When she called it showed up as a "restriced" number.  I called the number and it was an answering machine for Newmark and Associates, but I hung up.  I hope this is the same thing that happened to you when you called the number.  I have been racking my brain trying to think of all my debts and whom could possibly be filing a complaint on me, but the only ones I can think of are from more than 5 years ago meaning that in my case the SOL is up because I live in Pennsylvania.  I can't seem to find any info about them online, but when I called I did get an answering machine.  I just want to know if they are legit or if it really is a scam?

Scam outfit.  Read what Tamianth posted above - you wouldn't get a call before being served, nor would you be instructed to call another number.  Per the FDCPA, you should not pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - do not accept email/fax/phone/text - proof of debt and proof your caller has the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their initial contact with you is a violation of federal law.  More here:

Something called "Legal SUpport Services" has been involved in scams on 800notes for some time.   Possibly located in Southern California, but I don't know where.   The name "Mark Hernadez" sometimes appears with something called Land Mark and also with Legal SUpport Serviaces.  They tend to use 626 area codes for call back so I'm thinking it is possibly in San Gabriel valley area of Southern California.

They called my place of business and threatend to have legal papers served at my job. Ive never heard from them before. They called themselves Glenmark and Associates. They hung me up when I asked for their legal business name and where they are incorporated. According to the Secretary of States Office in California their firm does not exist. This company is using a fictitious name while attempting to collect a debt as well as other violations of USC 15 as 1692 et seq, please continue to report this firm to the FTC and the California Attorney General.

I just received two calls, one on my apartment's emergency maintenance line and the other on my cell phone. This was Christina Trevino from Legal Support Services telling me that an officer of the court would be coming to my address to serve me with papers. She told me I needed to respond to Barrington and Associates with a file number. She asked for me by my maiden name and then called me by my married name on voice mail. She told me to call them back at 626-408-2844. I am going to forward the information to Ohio's Attorney General.

This is a scam debt collector and no doubt about it.  You will have a LONG wait, since there is no debt, no one coming to serve you and trip to the Big House. If someone spoke to these jerks, there is a chance the scammers will call again, so be prepared to ignore or block.  The more you talk to them, the more they will call back.  Good Luck!

I just got the same kind of call, from a restricted number and late at night. Scammers. Really frightening messages they leave. I sure don't appreciate it. I have actually been getting a lot of weird calls lately so I must have put my number somewhere I shouldn't have. Hope your situation turned out okay.
