I read the comments after I got this call. I did not pick up because I did not recognize the number. Then I blocked it. Sure enough they called again later. Thank you for this site and thank all of you for your comments.

Got the call today, but Google Voice took it straight to my spam box and they left no message. Now this number is blocked (although they will just get another number). The phone companies do nothing because they profit with the lines. These are not legit business, so DNC means nothing. So just get a block tool and keep blocking them. No more land line for me.

I answered while driving to work and the obviously filtered fake accented man told me the whole "compromised computer" story. I asked him, is this the IBM? (I dont own one) and he replied yes! we must fix it soon. I kept him on the line for an hour while pretending to log in, type what he asked etc.. after awhile, when I could tell he was at the point he thought he should be getting access, I asked him if this usually works on a Dell like mine. He said yes it happens all the time. I asked if he would have full access to my system and would it be easier if i just gave him my credit card number. He liked that, but got hurried when I kept claiming his instructions weren't working. When asked if Acer laptops usually call him to report compromise he said yes, and again, 'we must fix it, we do everything in front of you, dont worry about security I will take care of it!' I asked him if he really believed I own an HP desk top, I asked him why I would ever give him full access to my computer. he lost his accent, and said, wait, what?! " please call me back when you get the access code" *click.....

called 3 time this week, that I did not answer. I tried to answer it tonight but no one was there.  I have received calls from people who are hard to understand trying to tell me something is wrong with my computer.  i tell them that is funny as I don't have a computer.  They hang up.

These creeps called again today... just save the number as scam and set ringtone to silent

This is a scam phone number - the callers advise they work for Windows and need to access my personal computer in order to fix a security issue.  The caller wants total access into the computer.  I have told the caller numerous times (I have received calls from this number multiple times) never to call me again.  However, they call me about once a week.  I do have my phone number set on the National Do Not Call registry (https://www.donotcall.gov/).

When I called back using Google Voice, I was told that "This Google Voice number is unavailable at this moment. Please try again later." Obviously if this was really Microsoft they wouldn't use a Google Voice phone number.

I didn't answer, but now that I see what it is, I know it's a scam.  Several years back when I had (coincidentally) just bought my new PC, I got a call and they had me going way down into my files to "find" a corrupt file.  (They said they were from tech support at Micro Soft.)  The file is something that's on every windows computer, but they told me it was corrupt.  They tried to talk me into letting them "clean it up", but I told them I would call my IT guy.  They got mad and hung up after they couldn't convince me to give them my info.  I did call my IT guy and he let me know it was a scam.  That was about 4 years ago!  Must be a lucrative business taking advantage that most people have no idea of how their computer works and will do just about anything to avoid having it get messed up.

I was away from home last Wednesday for about 4 hours.  During that time, I got 9 calls from this number.  I just saw them when I was clearing out the stored call numbers from my caller ID.

Yeah, and the caller ID wouldn't just say New York NY either!
