Today a "Ramonia" (said like the ingredient in Windex but with an "R" in front of it) called and claimed to be from some magazine we don't get.  She was heavily accented and difficult to understand.

All calls stopped.  I have had 11 phone calls attempted to my T-Mobile Android cell phone in 20 days, and all of those calls have been effectively,  efficiently and quickly blocked by an App downloaded and installed on the phone.  The App is MR. NUMBER, which does a fine job of catching the call during the first ring and hanging up.  The App is obtained free at Google Play Store and easily installed.   Then, open the App and touch on the cameo head icon with a stop sign.  Next, click "Hang Up On Someone" and select "Enter A Number" from the menu.  Enter the offensive number and click OK.  After that entry all future calls emanating from that number will be intercepted and disconnected.

Its legit people.  They update and maintain subscriptions to trade magazines.  I own a landscape company and they wanted to renew my subscription to Compact Machinery Magazine. Took me less than 2 minutes.

It is legit. These are industry trade magazines. They bill the advertisers in the mag based on distribution, so the more "free" subscriptions they can give away, the more they can charge for advertising. I've told them a million times I'm not interested, but they continue to call because it's in their best interest and their job to log as many subscriptions as possible.

Their phone system is set up to robo-call. When you answer, you get put into a queue. Once their system detects an answer, someone will get on the line. That's why there is a delay in answering. If you wait long enough, someone will get on the line. If it detects no answer or an answering machine, it will skip to the next call. That's why they don't leave a message.

She was extremely difficult to understand, but what I got from the call is that she needed to talk to the owner (completely butchered his last name) for get updates on the company's information so we could "continue" receiving free magazines.

Actually, it's totally "legit" and standard operating procedure.  You boned yourself out of what you had coming.  Brilliant.

Area codes that aren't familiar?  What, like NOT three numbers in a row, or is there something else about them that makes them unique?

Congress?  Really?  Then you'd know th purpose of the call and that's it's legitimate.  P.S. Congress can't trace a call, the telephone carrier can.  No wonder we're so politically FUBAR.  Flake.

Not leaving a message isn't harassment, harassing comments directed toward you are.  For all they know, your ringer is turned off and you don't even know they are calling, hence, NOT harrassed, just too busy to answer the phone.  Genius.

Seems like a LOT more effort than just ignoring the call...

So, you still get a ring?  You're still annoyed and the blocker failed.  Shouldn't a blocker BLOCK a call, not let it half way through?  That's like getting brutally gang raped by meth addicts with AIDS, but it's OK, only ONE got off in you...
