- Mike-in-MD replies to BigA| 2 repliesOh indeed it has been blown out of proportion. But magazine subscription scams by telephone are still common and they do try and use recordings of the conversation with the agent to prove you agreed but those recordings are much more than just a simple yes. There is very likely an extremely low probability that a single "yes" will cause harm.
- BigA replies to Mike-in-MD| 1 replyIt just simply boggles my mind that people know all about a scam where very few if anyone has lost any money, yet they don't know anything about the IRS scam where is is documented that people have lost 55 million dollars. I just answered a post the other day were the poster didn't have a clue what was going on. Something that has been publicized for years (5 or possibly more) and people don't have a clue about it, or the tech support scams, or the grant scams, or whatever other scam we see pop up here from time to time.
I would rather that people know about those scams also instead of focusing on one particular alleged scam. - TJ replies to Gross misconductI answered: Phoenix City Morgue...can I help you?
Caller: I'm looking for Tammy
I responded: Do you know what department she works in?
Caller hung up. 😂 - MikeHuntleton replies to BigAIts simple really, once you think about it. A rumor doesn't need any real scenarios to start, you just make a story up with no details, but enough to make people's imagination run haywire. That is the driving force behind a rumor and why they spread so quickly. People want to tell it their way when its brand new and it skyrockets. Just look at this rumor as an example, all stories starting out the same, but ending up very differently.
A real scam is given a lot of details , not leaving much to the imagination, so people quickly put it on the back burner until they get a call, so there is no driving force behind telling others about it. - clc85| 1 replySome woman wanting to sell me fabulous Las Vegas vacation packages. I'm on the No Call List, which apparently was a waste of time to enroll in. I told her that I wasn't interested in anything she was trying to sell and to remove me from her list. That was 3 days ago, and so far......no further calls.
