- RNB| 1 replySaw this # on caller ID on 9/13 3:22 p.m. They did not leave a message, so I take it to be some telemarketer.
- Sarah in SW VA| 1 replyVirginia State Troopers.. Said that they risk their lives for me everyday, and asked how much i'd like to contribute. Told them that i'm going throug a tough spot financially (lost job) and he continues with "Just $10 would help, i'm sure you could contribute $10?". -sigh-
- imbmuogmsCalls at least once or twice a week, doesn't give up.
- SCM in RICGot call from this number today - hung up when I answered. Guess they're still at it.
- CGVI have received several calls from this number in the past 8 days. When I was there to answer, the male caller said he was with the State Police and the rest was not understandable.
I explained that I am a retired trooper and was not familiar with this approach for fund raising. After a few more minutes, he then said he was actually with the Fraternal Order of Police, not the State Police (?).
I then told him he was confused about who he was representing. Which then caused him to use a few swear words and hang up on me.
I thought this would be the end of the calls, but there number appeared again on my Caller ID this morning with no message.- Call type: Non-profit organization
- nyahtebcalled on a Saturday morning but hung up before I answered. Always comes up as a northern VA number (Reston, Vienna) and are usually asking for donations to the State Police. Told them last time they called I was not interested, however they do not seem to get the message.
- TeresaI recieved a call from this number at 3:52 PM on 1/15/08. They called me by name but never identified who was calling. When I told him that Teresa was not home he continued to insist he talk to her. After telling him several times "I'm sorry she is not home". He said "What are you sorry for ---that I know this is you!" I looked up the number on my caller ID and when I called it the state police association was identified on the answering machine. This gentalmen was scary and certainly no one who whould be for a charitable organization. When I called the marketing number for the state police they told me there was no 703 number for thier group. Someone need to stop people like this. the recommedation is to call the Office of 'Consumer Affairs and choose Charties to report these offences That number is 800-552-9963.

- leva| 1 replyCall received at 11:09 a.m. Jan. 17, 2008. Phone rang three times and caller hung up. After reading these posts I'm glad I didn't rush to answer. I thought these people were out of business. One of the news shows -- Dateline or 20/20 -- did an expose' on these people several years ago. The callers don't work for or represent the Virginia State Troopers nor the the Fraternal Order of Police. The are con artists. Their method is intimidation -- as noted in previous posts. They want to scare you into thinking that if you don't donate, then watch out! Representatives of both organizations were interviewed and they both said that they do not solicit for donations in this way. The advice was, under no circumstances give these people any money. It does NOT go to any of the recipients that they claim they are soliciting for.
What I find a bit interesting is the folks that say they had to say no multiple times or they were verbally abused by the caller. I guess my question is -- why don't you just hang up? It really is that easy. If they call again, don't answer.- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Scam replies to levaReceived several calls in 2 weeks from the same number..each time a different pitch. Each time I declined and asked to be taken off of their list. I see they're still calling (caller ID). Patience and being polite doesn't work. Put them on your radar and make them NOT want to call you. If this isn't a scam, it's definitely managed by "A"'holes!
- bjFrequent calls from this number, shows "local call". They have used my first name on occassions when I have answered the phone. They are soliciting money to support whatever cause they are promoting (it changes) kids, cops, cancer, etc. I have asked to be removed from their calling list, it has not happened. They never leave a message. Callers are rude and aggressive.
- Ashley replies to heh| 1 replyThey call my house constantly - even after I told them I wouldn't donate money - they keep calling.
- SqueakyNo message was left on my answering machine
- AnonymI get called by these [***] regularly. I have asked to be taken off the list repeatedly. Now when they call the line just disconnects. They have represented themselves as Fraternal Order of Police, Eastern Seals and State Troopers Association. When I told them I'm was a purple heart recipient and asked who was making donations for my sacrifice vice the [***] local PD who can be bothered to do anything other than hand out speeding tickets she hung up.
- mailinatorCalls all the time and never leaves a message. I finally answered and Larry Gravely from Civic Development Group (CDG) out of NJ stated that the calls are placed through computers and then transferred to them when someone picks up.
He was calling on behalf of the VA State Troopers for their Teddy Bear program, and I asked what percentage went to the charity (the troopers), and he tried to be misleading by stating the split was 85% and 15%. I asked Larry if his company or the charity receives the 85%, and he responded that he didn't know but that was the split he was told. I know the charity only gets 15% of the money collected because I have asked before and told them to put me on their "DO NOT CALL LIST"; obviously they didn't. When he asked again how much I would donate, I said that if 85% of the money goes to his company, then I wasn't going to donate. This caused him to immediately hang up.- Caller: Civic Development Group

- Julia replies to RNBI received a call at my work today from an unknown number, from the VA Fraternal Police Organization. They said they were looking for fundraisers to give teddy bears to children, and were pushy with me about the amount I would like to donate. I was firm with them that I would not donate. While this is not the same number, I can see the resemblance to these other calls.
- BruceGot a call from this number tonight a 8:30 pm. Funny I have a brother-in-law that works for the police department and is also a member of "The Fraternal Order of Police". His has informed me that this is a scam as they never solicit for money by phone.

- Va resident| 1 replyI feel so stupid. I was sitting at the computer when they called for the second time. I was thrown off because they called for my husband the other night, and I told them to call back this AM (not planning on answering the phone)but I was expecting a call back so answered the phone with no caller id when it rang. Calling for "State police" for drinking/driving campaign. Since it kind of fit what I thought sounded like a reasonable request, and a very personable caller, and just $20...I did it. I should have been websearching at the same time. he was so smooth when asking for the credit card/debit card info---"because that protects you in case of fraud"... We've been trying to donate more, but this just slipped in under me ;( He also gave me his name, and how it would show up on my account- "Community Ventures"
Then half an hour later, I guess I came to my senses...and thought- I should check this out. Called back the number, which could not be completed. Checked my account online, which thankfully has had no charges processed yet...and called the bank and canceled my debit card. Thankfully, they were also showing no charges yet.
Back to not answering the phone...- Caller: supposedly "Community Ventures"
- ethey call about male enhacment pills
- Rosslyn VASome [***] left a voice message. Didn't realize it hit voicemail evidently. He was talking about how he was going to "get some marijuana..yeah...go smoke a blunt." I saved the message. Unbelievable
- vaif you call the number back the message gives you an 800 number to call for customer service.
