Answered the phone to hear a recorded message from "Cathy at the carpet cleaning company" claiming that we are past customers and asking if we needed our carpets or upholstery cleaned. We did have carpet cleaners out several weeks ago but their phone number was not this one (or anything similar to it, apart from the area code) and they identified themselves in their calls to me with the company name. Caller ID said "Out of area" -- though the area code shown was the same as ours and the number was from a nearby suburb. When I called the number back it was answered by a recorded message thanking me for calling "the Northern Virginia Carpet Cleaners" -- which was NOT the company I hired to clean my carpets.

received a call similar to the one above.  Call was on my cell phone, and the name of the company was nothing like any company I ever used.  I hung up and did not return the call.

I got the call this afternoon - a recorded message from Kathy.  Problem is, we've never used this company before.  So, they are in violation of the "Do Not Call" prohibition.  Does it work to pursue these callers?  Absolutely not.  I once wrote to the FCC.  They took almost four months to respond, then shoved it off on another government agency.  That Do Not Call list is totally worthless.

I am getting these calls from 'Kathy' at the carpet cleaning company. I have never had my carpets professionally cleaned AND am on the Do Not Call list. Checked with the Virginia Better Business Bureau as the number on Caller ID stated the company's name was "Northern Virginia Carpet Cleaners". Surprise!-the VA BBB states the company does not exist.

I,too,wish we had more resources to stop these sham calls.

I got a call this morning. I was hoping it was for a job that I applied for.

I don't even know how they got my number.

My number is on the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) national Do Not Call registry.

I received a call from  703-763-4665 on November 30, 2011.  My Caller ID displayed the letters "Out of Area" and the telephone number.  It is likely a fake telephone number but that does not matter.

The woman whose automated voice I heard said she was calling for Cathy's Carpet Cleaning Service and I was a past customer.  I have never heard of this carpet service and I doubt it is the real name of the service.  Online sites say it is really "Northern Virginia Carpet Cleaning Service."

EVERY TIME I receive an unwanted call such as this one I report it to the FTC using its online complaint format.  It doesn't matter if it is a fake name, number or not.  I provide the date, time of the call, what Caller ID displayed and the message if there was one.  I have decided to let the FTC know that people are tired of unwanted calls.

These companies/individuals know that most people will not bother to complain to the FTC - that is what they are relying on.  Thus, they stay under the FTC's radar.  Complaining at this website, other than identifying the caller and letting others know they are not unique, does little to stop the calls.

If more people would complain to the FTC and not just complain on this forum, the FTC WILL take action against these annoying callers.  The FTC does not act on one complaint alone.  It takes many complaints before they will take action - but they DO take action if enough citizens complain.

Received an automated voice mail from Kathy about Carpet cleaning on November 22, 2011 on my cell phone while roaming. Had to pay roaming charges.
Now I get phone calls from 703 359 6443 on my house phone about carpet cleaning. I do not have carpet.

Spam call from Fairfax carpet.  Reported to do not call registry.  Have never done business with them.

I keep getting calls from this company.  They tell you to press 1 for additional info.  When you it tells you all their operators are very busy and to leave your name and number and they will return your call.

My phone under"DO NOT CALL LIST", Please STOP to bother me any more OR call Verizon, FCC Or FBI to stop you. Thank you.

My call was from Kathy's, not Cathy's.

Did not answer as I did not recognize number but threw in google and found this post.

Got the same recorded message, this time from 703-359-6443.  Tried to use the touchtone interface, but the other end hung up.  Called back and got a recording that stated the number was out of service, but it didn't sound like the phone company's normal message.  Could just be their answering machine?

I've been getting calls from Kathy on both my home and cell phone. She has started to call from a different number now though 703 259 8559. It's the same message each time.

Got a phone call from 703-763-4655, on my cell phone, while at work. Thought they might be an possible employer asking for an interview but, instead, I found out they're a telemarketer. I don't care where they're from, or what their business is. I am on the Federal Do Not Call List, and on the WI Do Not Call List. I will be reporting this company to the FCC.

Just received the same recorded message from Cathy referencing previous carpet cleaning services -- new number is 703-259-8559.  Same as the messages I have received from other local Northern VA telephone numbers.  I have not used carpet cleaning services and am on DoNotCall Registry.  Calls have come in on my mobile phone.  I try not to answer but if I do then I save the number and designate it under [***] in my CONTACTS so that I will know the next time that they try me.  Seems far better than to respond or fall for their trick to get me to identify myself or my number (ie "press 9 to be removed from our list") since I assume that this is merely a scam to gather cell numbers.
If, however, anyone is able to identify these bozos please include me in the posse that will bring them to justice, whether in court, at the FTC or through street justice.

Constantly getting calls from this number.  No message.

Called me three times on my home phone,two on my cell phone.I'm on the do not call list!!
