»YOU are your own best defense against unwanted calls! You can use a call blocking app, device, service or procedure to block such calls.Click_This_Line_for_Methods_to_Block_CallsHere are some tried and true methods for reducing or eliminating repeated spam / scam phone calls:
1. Do not answer the phone if you see an unknown number on your Caller ID ... let it go to answering machine or voicemail. Many telescammers hang up after three or four rings.
2. If you have a smartphone, get one of the inexpensive or free call blocker apps at your online app store, and learn how to use it.
3. If your cell is not "smart", read the manual to learn how to set up a "group". Assign the scammer's phone number to that group. Also assign a "silent ring" to that group. You will not hear future calls from that number.
3a. Alternately, assign a "silent ringtone" as the DEFAULT ringtone. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to friends, family, contacts, businesses, etc. That way, you will not hear your phone ring, even if the scammer changes numbers! (This is also called "whitelisting", and will cause you to miss calls from non-whitelisted numbers, so be careful!)
4. For cell phones or landlines: Contact your phone service provider. They may have a facility or method to allow you to block numbers.
5. For landlines: there are several call blocking devices and services available. Use your favorite search engine to find one.
6. DO NOT call unknown numbers back without checking who called (800notes is your friend)! All that does is verify your number is "live". Instead, read this:

Please reply to this post, to let us know you read it, or have taken suitable actions to protect yourself. - Jennifer replies to CrossJust another heads up..they also use different "methods" (real person acting like a General Motors rep saying your car warranty is up would you like to extend it today,or a credit card, loan rep saying they can lower rates) anything they can make up to get you to give them a card # or your SSN and they call from many different phone numbers from all different states and sometimes they call from 000-000-0000. This has been happening to me for 3 years now and I've never gave any of them any info and the past year have not even answered. Now days I keep my WiFi secured and mobile data is turned off unless I need to use it,then I turn back off bc some of them can hack your phone and access all info. I'm 29 and I had my identity stolen 5 times from the time I was 18-21 and every time I never talked to anyone, but the theifs got ahold of my SSN somehow. Most likely personal info I threw in the trash is all I can conclude from that, and ever since then I burn anything with my name on it. They messed my credit score up so bad that it took me 6 years to get to a decent score. They fools and lazy for not getting a job
- Theresa ElkinsI get several calls a day from this number. Up until 9:00 at night.

- vrcsI, too, have received this frequent persistent call from Athens GA...so this time I answered... It is a robo survey called "20 20 INSIGHT"...States that it is not asking for money, donations or identifying information. It gives the option to start the survey, answer later or to not participate. I chose not to participate and assumed it to be political. I also assume it to be legit, although annoying... not sinister.
I appreciate this forum and it's contributions.
If you dont recognize the name/number, DO NOT ANSWER. If you happen to answer, DO NOT RESPOND IN ANY WAY; NOT BY VOICE, SELECTED NUMBER OR CALL BACK! If it is in the form of a pop-up, text or email, DO NOT SELECT A LINK. Assume any response to be a hidden link... (to hell). After all, they are scammers and you dont really know what you answered or consented to do, give or buy, for which your number may be billed. Open full address, take a screen shot then delete.
And don't waste your time with cute answers...there's no satisfaction and they don't care. They just move on to irritate or hook the next sucker. The longer you keep them on the line, the longer your access is open.
SCAMMING AND PHISHING ONLY WORKS IF THERE IS A MARKET (target, sucker). They are bottom feeders that have no limits, conscience, mothers, or legislation (DNC) except you.
You can file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission for any and all unwanted and/or unsolicited calls (cell or land-line), texts, scams, phishing, ID theft, and others at www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/Information#crnt
A legitimate caller will be identified, will leave a name, message, and call back number, giving you the option to respond. It will respect the DNC. You can file a complaint about offenders on the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY. Your registered number does not expire.
A legitimate notification will identify you by name and never use a link....no matter how real, authentic, promising or threatening it appears. Call your private contact number to check.
All the TV stations and Internet providers should run programs at prime times about scams and how to recognize, report and deal with them. That would be a public service of public interest...and hopefully, make these scammers into real losers.- Caller: 20 20 Insight survey
