These people are calling you to collect a debt from Bank of America.  When you ask them to send you an "invoice" they tell you to contact Bank of America directly.  I wouldn't trust them and have blocked them from calling my house and cell phone.

If Bank of America has a debt with me that is news because I have never had Bank of America for a bank and if they were a reputable collection agency it is their job to provide you with the information pertaining to it.

Your AG gave the correct advice. The FTC, which oversees the FDCPA, tells you the same thing. Every consumer group and watchdog who is learned in debt collection problems will also match that advice.

Your state AG is not your personal attorney. His time is better spent doing what you cannot, such as getting the worst companies fined and shut down. You cannot expect him or anyone else to manage the many thousands of "shut up" demand letters your fellow state residents must require each month. To best defend your rights, you (or your legal rep) personally need to be able to prove receipt of your letters and be the custodian of your own records.

You're beefing about a USPS fee of less than six dollars when a CMRR card can be redeemed in a courtroom for hundreds or thousands of dollars in damage awards if a scofflaw collector continues to abuse your rights. You are, as the British say, badly in need of a "sense of proportion".

} if you had money for lawyers then you probably wouldn't be getting debt collector calls

    1.  Thanks so much for the implication that everyone reading this thread is deep in debt from "avoiding responsibility". The many "wrong number" complaints here indicate otherwise.

2.. Nobody needs a lawyer to hold your hand while you send letters demanding debt validation and/or phone call cessation.

    3.  Should a dispute with a debt collector escalate to a courtroom, the FDCPA permits consumer plaintiffs to shift their legal expenses to the loser. Consumer lawyers commonly work such cases on contingency.

} consumer protection laws are a joke

You must have heard a different punchline. My friends and I have been using those "joke" laws for years to both silence and wave away lawbreaking collectors, usually in a single stroke. The existing statutes are far from perfect, but the debt industry is mostly too lazy and arrogant to follow even the simplest rules.

} they hate..... I repeat hate to be ignored

... and resistance is futile, right? I don't like being ignored either. That's why your pals at FSA have a new nickname: "Defendant"

Your caller does not maintain this site or this web page. Your caller is not going to dutifully study random forum complaints and cannot magically determine which numbers should not be called based on anonymous comments.

For a ''not me'' case your best option is sending a ''cease-communication'' notice via USPS Certified with return card, as discussed previously in this thread.

These people are rude and relentless. Have been calling me for at least 3 years over a charge that was not even mine. Now I find out through my credit source that they have attached a bad credit report on my  my credit score for a bill that I did not even incur.  Am waiting to hear from the credit bureau on this matter. They are going to help me get these people. This was all done illegally.

Got a call from these people, don't know why as I owe no monies to creditors and have asked them to stop calling this number as this is a place of business and we have none with them.  This is the number that comes up on caller ID.  Strange that when I've also looked this number up it comes up for a DJ too?

I have been getting numerous calls asking me to press buttons, i hang up. after about 6 calls in 2 days, i answered. They wanted to know the last 4 numbers in my SS! These calls are not wanted, I am on do not call list and if someone is phishing, I want them STOPPED IN THEIR TRACKS and maybe protect me and others! Reporting to BBB and FEDERAL TRADE, I suggest you all do the same!!

They pretend to agree to a settlement then they sell your debt to another collection agency who then starts harassing you.
Never trust a collection agency. They  LIE !
Never give your banking information to them for so called auto payments. They will empty your account's.
Never talk to them on the phone. Make contact with collection agencies by u.s. mail only. Get  ALL agreements in writing. NEVER make a verbal agreement with a collection agency !  They LIE

Never send a collection agency any information what so ever !
You should NEVER provide a collection agency information they can use against you.
The collection agency is responsible for proving thier case . Your not suppose to prove it for them !
Always remember---  COLLECTION AGENCIES LIE  !!!!!

Your full of bullcrap. Someone calls me, I an under no obligation to give them any information about myself.
They need to do their own job. Not me do it for them.
One simple call to telephone directory assistance to verify who's name the phone number is in.
People / debtors move. Phone numbers are reassigned. Calling a phone number on some old out of date application repeatedly after being told the number has been reassigned and no such person is at the location. That's crazy .
