- Dubious| 1 replyHung up left no message. Identified as Buffalo NY
- ras/ccpd/75| 2 repliesThe caller was telemarketing a medical alert system which he said was prepaid.
Was inform it was needed and thre times was told no thank for service yet he still push product/service until I was force to hangup. This is not proper telemarketing but only can think SCAM ALERT.
Phone provided by local telephone company for the record.- Caller: NO COMPANY /NO CID
- Call type: Telemarketer
- BillieThere is an article in the current AARP Bulletin explaining the medic alert for senior scams, which would be good reading for all!
- MidNyteStorm1| 1 replyYet another call for an alleged medical alert type system. But this this time they are using a different number. Top this off with that fact that I am now hearing a female voice and not male one.Either way, I not about to fall for what is most likely a bunch of con artists from outside the United States & that sucks since its impossible to enforce the DNC registry on these maggots.
- rainbowsprinklesI started getting these calls at home and on my cell phone after I tried to activate the onstar svc in my new used car .
- Caller: Medic alert system
- Call type: Telemarketer
- CAVok, new # same scam. same male announcing, press 1 for delivery instructions.....only $34.95 per month ha ha ha. asked them how they get tel.#......answer someone referred me. yah. i asked to immediately - again - be removed from their call centers.
- doodoodadaThe whole press 1, shipping is paid, claim a free medical alert device con. Blocked this number. Suggest you do the same.
- Barbara Buoncristiano| 4 repliesThis must be the tenth call I've received for this medic alert scam. I don't know what the good is of registering for DNC lists - Federal and State -- when these calls still come through.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Native Noo Yorkah| 1 replySElling unwanted services as described above. Calls repeatedly. Keeps talkilng even when you say to stop calling.
- Caller: Medical services of some sort
- John replies to Native Noo YorkahThe callers keep talking because you're listening to an animated voice. Just don't answer, or hang up.
- BrianBoru ArdRiPick up, no answer. Tried calling number from 3 different phones, doesn't even connect or ring. Deceptive, because I live in Buffalo, the number reports as a Buffalo number (CID). So, unlike with other telemarketer losers, I'm reluctant to pick-up and immediately hang-up.
Think I'll do a little research - if they're truly local, maybe I can drive by and pay these societal leeches an in-person visit. 😒- Caller: No Identity
- nykerHow do I block this number?
- Caller: Emergency Device
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Emma| 1 replyJust got a call from 716-817-8527 (an automated male voice) and soon after, filed a complaint with the donotcall.gov registry.
Here's the link: https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2. This is obviously a scam to take advantage of seniors and harass everyone else.- Caller: Medical Alert System
- Call type: Telemarketer
- savannah43 replies to MidNyteStorm1I do not believe that the phone companies cannot stop this harassment of their customers. Either they are making money indirectly from this crime or they would have to invest some of their money in the technology to stop it and wouldn't be allowed to charge their customers for reimbursement. They are guilty for allowing this crime to continue, and one of these days, a lawmaker or US attorney will get on the ball and force this to stop. This will happen faster if people harassed by the weasels write and call their state and federal representative and senators. Repeatedly.
- savannah43 replies to Barbara Buoncristiano| 3 repliesOnly honest legitimate businesses honor the DNC List. Those types, you'll never hear from. The thieves and weasels, who are criminals to begin with or they wouldn't be trying to rob you, don't obey laws and rules. Many of them don't really want you to buy anything--they just want your personal information so they can either rob you or sell your phone number as a "live" number so others can rob you. Don't answer these calls. I don't use my VM any longer, and just let the number ring and ring if I don't know who they are. They eventually give up. If I am not at home when someone calls, I just call back the numbers on Caller ID that I know. Maybe if enough people stop using VM, the phone companies will do something about the criminal use of their phone services. Unlikely, but possible.
- savannah43 replies to EmmaPlease read my post above regarding the DNC List. The List does not prosecute anyone. All they do is list the people who register with them, and honest companies do not contact those numbers. Dishonest people are likely taking the numbers from the DNC List and making a point of calling them. However, using robo-calling (computer generated calls), you will be contacted by them and if you answer, your name goes on lists that are purchased by other thieves. It's illegal to do this on cell phone numbers, but I notice more and more complaints about telemarketers doing just that. ALL telemarketing should be illegal unless you op-in by signing a consent form for each company. That would at least make it a little more difficult for the weasels. Your government at work: Make laws just to appease your constituents but don't enforce them. We pay them for that.
- Tom replies to savannah43| 2 repliesThe medic alert for seniors scam is fairly new, but others, like the card services scam have been going on for years without a resolution. During this time people (mainly the elderly) continued to be taken advantage of. In addition to suggestions on how to avoid the calls, and how to stop the callers, we need to spread the word of the scammers to people who are vulnerable so they do not continue to be cheated, as we search for a way to identify and prosecute the scammers. Also, as you stated, legitimate businesses do not disobey the do not call list intentionally--once in a great while a mistake is made, followed by an apology, and no more calls. Nearly EVERY unwanted call we receive is from one sort of scammer or another.
- NiteliteGot a call from this number, accidently picked up (damn, I try to avoid numbers I don't recognize) and as soon as he said "This is John from the Shipping depart from Medica..." I laughed and told him I wasn't buying and hung up, because I'd seen that scam here for various numbers.
Called the DNC list, whatever.
I asked the friendly DNC people why doesn't whatever law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction pretend to fall for the scam and accept the package and track the suckers down? I volunteered.
Seriously, though, why not?- Caller: Didn't say.
- Jeff St. JohnThis same number has called my house several times with "Hi this is John calling from the shipping department of medic alert....etc". I do not want them to call me any longer and I have filed complaints with the do not call registry with regards to this number. But - they still call.
- Caller: medic alert?
- bill hoodmedic alert system keeps calling
- Call type: Telemarketer
