Received one of these calls a couple years ago, asking if my business was for sale.  I said that of course for the right amount.  She asked how much, and I said for 5 million, no negotiations.  She hung up.  Apparently to rich for her blood.

Just called this a.m., sent call right to fax machine.

If wanted to sell services, a "Peddlers Permit" is required in this community.  That includes Phone Solicitations and Door to Door, (Kirby salesmen don't come to my house).

Simple a telemarketer calling, average once or twice a month. Not worth getting upset over, I tell them the owner is not in and sure I will tell him right a way to call you back.
And I do appreciate this forum and all the heads up.

This scammer calls numbers on the national do not call registry in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. They want to talk to the owner and want to make an offer to sell your business, claiming they have an agent in the area who can take care of the sale very quickly. This is clearly a scam as they have not done their research on whether these is a business for sale or not. Do not provide this scammer with any information.

The owner(s) may not even come into the office. It would be the office mangers job to find out what the call pertained to and then relay the message to the owner(s).

I know personally if I do not want to take a call when they ask the owner I will ask what it is about and then I would decide if I wanted to talk to them or not.

Do you think if you call lets say Stephens Inc you would be able to talk to him if you asked to talk to the owner without telling someone what it was about? Also the caller should already know who owns the company or it is controlled by a Board of Directors.

Received a call from above number wanting to speak to the owner (my son) and they called him by his name. He wanted to know if he wanted to sell his business. My answer was "no". He said thanks and hung up.

I'm a client of Affiliated Business Consultants. Here's what they do- they have clients who come to them to find businesses for sale and then ABC blankets an area or zip code with calls to find businesses where the owners are wanting to sell. Then they try to match up the buyer to the seller and make a transaction fee. I used them because web I sold my pet salon I didn't want my employees or customers to know that I was selling and I wanted to get it sold without someone putting a for sale sign on my window or listing it in the local paper. I didn't want my ex to get his dumb butt involved either.  So, I used them to sell it. And it was a good deal. I was satisfied. But then they called me a year later and asked me if I wanted to sell my business and I laughed because they were the ones who sold it. Ther data must be old. So I asked where they got my name and number and they said from the state business license list. And my license was still active so I guess they don't bother to check if we are all on the data base.  I guess it's annoying but they just want to talk to you if you're  wanting to sell otherwise they don't call back.

Asked for owner by name - a name that is interchangeable, male or female (he's a male). So receptionist said this is she - if they had legit business with us they would have known "she" was not the person they wanted. Caller said she was compiling a list of businesses for sale in our area. We're not for sale - so I BLOCKED the number. I don't trust any cold caller as far as I could throw them, and I don't want them calling again.

And by the way, for those who aren't aware of it, business phone numbers are EXEMPT from Do Not Call telemarketing calls. Not that the list stops them anyway -- but if it's a business line they can call all they want.

Once or twice a month? You wouldn't be so laid back about it if you received 3, 4, 8, 10 ... EVERY SINGLE DAY like we do. It's truly a problem and we waste hundreds of man hours every year scrambling for the phone only to hang up on them.

Scam. I don't have the time to waste on fishing calls. If they Can't explain in clear English their purpose for calling! Then it's a dial tone they can discuss it with ! The entire reason for having an office manager is to filter these idiots out ....

Got a phone message from Matthew Beachum (sp?) wondering if we wanted to sell our business.  Very bad scam experience a few years ago with Tyrone Tymkovich of Colorado convicted by Colorado AG in 2010 doing the same thing.. cold calling saying they can sell your business.  Once snared, they try to milk you for all you got and give you nothing back.  I can't say that ABC is a scam, but it doesn't pass the "smell test" to me.

Caller id says ABC. 719-540-2200. 2 times in 2 minutes. Clearly robo. Asks if this is so & so business, immediately said hello then disconnects. I answer phone but never say a word. I would love to be able to call and bug them.
