Go to 800 notes main page & read all about it. You'll find your situation is not new, or unique. It is a very well known scam. If you had a debt, a real one, you would be getting letters in the mail by US Post. Remember your rights. Ask for proof of debt to be sent to you by mail. Not fax, text, email, or phone call. US Mail. Do not give them your address. A real debt collector knows where you live. If they swear at you, or refuse to send you proof of debt, you are probably being called by foreign 3rd world criminals (faking their caller ID) trying to extort money on a debt you do not owe. Remember (or look up) your rights & don't panic (that's what they want).

Yes, A major scam. A real collector would have all of your information and be willing to deal with you in pretty much whatever way is comfortable for you to resolve the situation. These leeches try to prey on people.

It's a scam. Dip not fall for it. What they doing is illegal. If you think it's real ask for them to send paperwork to prove its real. They won't I promise. By law if they are real They have to send documents to back up what they are saying

John Reyes, don't tell me you really gave them your info!  These people call me and leave messages 2 or 3 times a day, (I've never had a loan) each one different, but they're all scams!! I talked to the police and now I am calling the numbers back and they hang up every time.  So I am going to start answering and play their game-I will give them fake info. and keep them on the line, hopefully it will irritate them as much as it does me!

Total scam.  Little better than extortion.  Being in debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it.  Only public prosecutors file charges for bank fraud.  If you had committed that kind of crime you'd have heard about it from law enforcement and you' d have written correspondence from the bank.  You would NOT have heard about it from some scammery-scummery debt collector by way of cold call.  There's no way a defaulted payday loan  can be magically transformed into a criminal case for bank fraud.

Ignore these calls and block them.

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money,  tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.  If you can find them.

Got the same message by 2 different people. They never stated my name in the phone call. That is why I think it is a scam. I have been scammed so many times lately. Not falling for it. Don't call them back.

I received a call from this number and they stated that they have my name and ss# and there is some kind of case that has been downloaded in my country. well I went to the district attorney office and now they have a recording on my phone this is a scam whatever you do do not call the number.

Looks like they have gotten smart enough to get on these forums and make it sound legit.

Just curious, has anyone recently applied for a passport? Because as soon as I did these calls started and just wondering if it is a fluke!

I started getting these calls 4-6 yrs ago from people that couldn't speak English. Same speech and threatening to prosecute. I filed a complaint with the state attorney general and haven't heard anything for over 2 yrs. now I have received my second message from English speaking people with EXACTLY the same message from "Robin Wright" as quoted above. I called back and asked for her and was told the woman that answered the phone could help me. She asked my name and I told her they called me so she (thru caller ID I'm sure) told me my name. She was rude and threatening and said "I could deal with it in court. Good luck to you!"

I was told this same thing the first go round and nothing happened. Just like someone else said they had my name, SSN, address, email (although that was wrong), place of employment, and checking account number!!!!!  My bad for "applying many years ago online to be approved, and I was, but I NEVER took a loan!!!  This pisses me off that this call has occupied my time for the last hour and that means they aggravated me.
