- lamet| 1 replythat happened to a lot of people because they did not read the terms and conditions of the offer before they ordered it. You actually authorized those charges when your placed your order. It was all there in the terms and conditions of using the website.
to protect yourself
1. READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS FIRST! Those online forms are designed to capture YOUR info - even if you never submit it.
2, Read the Privacy Policy - this is where they tell you that they SHARE/SELL your info to others - increasing TELEMARKETING CALLS and SPAM emails.
3. Online Retailers sometimes use After-market loyality programs hiding behind special offers - those have their own terms and conditions separate from the online retailer - you authorize monthly menbership fees with these offers if you are not careful. - AlabamasweetSomeone called from this number and refused to tell me who IMC is unless I gave them my name first. What a way to do business! Welcome to the 21st century strong armed business practices. Why would I want to do business with anyone who refuses to tell me more about their company than that they are IMC. They refuse to say who IMC is or what they do.. other than to say they do many things and needed my full name before telling me why they even called me. Yeah.. I understand using mailing lists etc.... but please people ... common sense! If you want my business then treat me like a human being not a phone number on your long list. If you have to cover everything from A to z and need my name before knowing why you called me... then no thanks ... do business with someone besides me! Thank you and I hope this helps someone out there to just say ... no thanks.
- DanielleI got a missed call from this number.
My advice:
Call back and VERY aggerssively and sternly demand that you be taken off the calling list. - Carolreceived calls and no one says anything.
- joseph| 1 replyim always busy when they call me so i've recently been having missed calls from 727-259-7289. on google i searched "area code 727" & came across this link. i think its because i tried to sign up for this free "acne medication" thing. but they needed my credit card number so i didnt go on with it. but i do remember submitting my cell number so i think thats why they keep calling me. its [***] ANNOYING!
- DoNotCall ListI received a missed call from 727-259-7289 and I was tempted to call back to see who it was. Before doing so, I decided to Google the number and THANK GOD I DID! I read the other posts and see that others blame it on credit card usage via the Internet, but I haven't made any purchases via the Net in the past few years. I did although recently put my number on the National Do Not Call List. Just out of curiosity, those of you that posted comments blaming credit card companies, have you also put your number on the National Do Not Call List? I'm just trying to narrow it down since I don't do Internet shopping and am pretty upset that I have been "targeted" with bogus calls. To all of you that have posted comments about this number, THANK YOU!!! I'm glad Google led me to this page so that I now know it's a scam. Calling them back will just confirm that they have reached a live person, and I refuse to give them the satisfaction! :) The next time they call I'll answer with an air horn and blow their ears out :D
- DoNotCall List replies to josephHey, just out of curiosity, did you happen to add your number to the National Do Not Call List? I think that's how they got my number :( Thank you in advance for your reply.
- DoNotCall List replies to lametGood advice...thank you!
- DittoDot| 3 repliesFirst i was receiving a call from an unknown number, now this number all within the last 2 days. The only thing that i have done differently is apply for an american express card, i activated it and then the calls started. Would AMEX be selling information?
- BenJust got a call from this number. I answered "good afternoon, this is Ben." There was no response, so I waited a beat and said, "Hello?" Immediately I heard one, two, three beeps, and an automated voice say, "goodbye." Very disconcerting.
- ChrisBen, the same thing happened to me about 5 minutes ago. The "goodbye" voice was kind of creepy to be honest.
- suspicious replies to DittoDotI also recently activated an American Express card before receiving a phone call from this number. They claimed I was entered in a prize drawing for $1,000,000. The guy transferred me to an automated system, which led to a speed-talking recording that wanted me to press "9" to enlist in some program that would bill to my wireless account. What an obvious scam! American Express, you let me down :(
- Denishacalled my cell phone and no answer
- Caller: unknown
- TSBSThis number has called my husband's cell for 3 times so far today and no answer each time.
- BrianThis number has called me three times today already. Since I didn't know who it was, I haven't picked up. For me, it only rings two or three times before the "would-be" caller hangs up.
- Annoyed replies to DittoDot| 1 replyI too just activated an Amex card, and almost immediatly started getting calls from an unknown number, but I haven't been by my phone to pick it up. They've been calling me 2-4 times a day! Then I got a call from this number; when I first called back a voice recording put me on hold. I hung up after a few minutes. The next time I called an automated voice said 'Bye,' and hung up. Im calling Amex tomorrow.
- hatethisnumberok so every time i get a phone turned on from different subscribers, i always get a call from this number and no one says anything, then right after that ill get another call but this time from a private number with some one looking for a Jose. can anyone tell me if those two are connected?
- lamet replies to AnnoyedALL credit card companies have their OWN telemarketers - All you have to do is inform AMEX that you do not want to be contacted by THEIR telemarketers.
You have to do this with businesses you have a previous relationship with - as they are allowed to call you, but they are also required to maintain a DONOTCALL list so you can OPT Out of receiving these calls.
Years ago I opened a retail account and was billed for a membership program I did not authorize, When I called the retailer - they lied and claimed they knew nothing about it and gave me another number to call. It was that retailers OWN Telemarketers and they told me they got my info from the retailer.
Needless to say I canceled that account and told the retailer because they LIED about their telemarketers
and not having any knowledge of the charges when in fact THEY DID!
