- Tom O'Brien| 2 repliesI got double-teamed on this apparent scam. Received virtually identical e-mail from 'Rick' at 1-734-446-6948, followed by a phone call. (See e-mail following.) Also received similar e-mail from 'Adarsh' at 972-354-4205.
I thought that there was probably more than a casual association between these two e-mails, but unlike the previous poster I was immediately put-off by the request for my SS number. Does it make sense that Verizon would hire these outfits to fill positions half-way across the country, and the best service that they can offer is to pull resumes off the Monster site? Apparently not.

"Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded." 2 Chronicles 15:7 - Mel Gallagher replies to Crash| 1 replySo is this a scam of some sort or do they really have jobs? I just got a call this morning, they found my resume on Monster.com and said they want to forward my resume. They have not asked for any social security numbers or any other information other then how much I wanted per hour as wage.
- Tony Spencer| 3 repliesI got a call from Alina and she said she was from Infotree. It was amazing, she got me an interview and a placement in 4 days. Can't complain about job in this crappy market.
- annon replies to Tony SpencerTony, Did everything end up working out with the job from Infotree?
- LizI just got a call from a female here that sounded nervous when I told her I'm not looking for a job since I got one just last week. She mentioned she had a 1 year contract position with my previous employer, how funny my job ended with them because my contract expired last month and couldn't be renewed. Now I'm getting another contract opportunity again?
No more than two mins later I got another call from a male from 510-870-1586 for the same contract position! I understand the competition among contract recruiters but this is just too much of a coincidence for these two phone calls mins from each other.
Then I got two emails from infotree from two different people for the same contract position. One from Alina and the other from Meghna. I highly doubt these people are working from the US.
This could easily just be a mixup on their end but it could also be a scam. Please don't give out any SSN numbers or any other personal info to these people over the phone or email! I've never had to do that for any contract job until I went to the agency in person to fill out paperwork.- Caller: Infotree

- temI received a similar email, the same email actually. I don't really see the issue with getting the email. If you are signed up with the jobs sites that is to be expected.
The question here, that only Tony Spencer seems to have answered at all to, is whether or not this group is lagit or some kind of scam. Asking for your ssn is weird but I wasn't asked that and wouldn't answer that if I wasn't confident of the source. Further, if they are not in/from the US then that might be an issue but not the issue I think the chain is most concerned about.
So the question again is; has anyone, other than Tony Spencer, landed a job through these people conversely has nothing or bad things happend after you receve and or responded...especially if you gave them your ssn?- Caller: Infotree Service Inc
- Rob FI just got a phone call and email from her. I didn't answer the call but looked up the # here! The email asked for my Visa status, but no SSN. Maybe they realized it was a turn-off?

- KarynSame thing as everyone else is saying -- I didn't answer the phone call, but I looked the number up and found all this. The e-mail and phone call were within minutes of each other. The voice mail from "Alina" did not sound like a normal upbeat recruiter. She was soft spoken and sounded almost timid. Anyways, I will not be returning their phone call or e-mail.

- Tiffanie M.So I just received a call about a position with Verizon. The call was from a Michigan # 734.446.7036. He offered me $13hr which I turned down I told him I needed at least 18-$20hr. in which he stated was too high for the employer to pay. He then called me back 2 minutes later and said they can give me that and would like to get me submitted. Next he asked for the last 4 of my ss#. I hung up. Why would he be willing to give me more $ than the client is willing to pay and has asked me ZERO about my experience for the position they are hiring for. I just left my job as a Technical Recruiter and this is not how it happens. This is not how we conducted business. My personal opinion is to flag this as a SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whether or not it truly is a scam or not it doesn't sit well with me so I will not be pursuing it further. I'm not to fond of coincidences. If this company is legit they will realize that asking for SS # immediately in the submission process is turning people off and they will change their policies. SCAM, SCAM, SCAM....and I'm sorry but it doesn't help that these people are foreign. He was very timid and shy (recruiters are the exact opposite) and didn't know common American practices. For instance, I asked if it was a fulltime position he said "No, its 5 days a week. 8 hours per day" ...SMH

- Andy AIt is strange with all these notes. I have been placed twice with this agency in the last 2 years. I have been contracting for last 15 years and have seen all kinds of agencies. They might not be the IBM of the world, but do what they say and are very easy to deal with. Infact, when I was asked about the SS# first time, I was pissed, but three other recruiters called about the same job and asked for SS#. I decided to go with them. What I was told that they don't need the SS#, it is the clients which force them to have the SS# to avoid duplicate submissions. I had no problems.

- Sarah in Virginia| 1 replyLike most of you, after I was contacted, I immediately did an Internet search to see what others knew about this company. At first I became alarmed when I read on this page that it might be a scam. However I took a few hours to go to the library and do more research.
Decided to take a few minutes to post my research findings here, so others who have similiar concerns can see what I found.
I have thoroughly researched this company, and I assess they are a legitimate business. I found this company listed in several reputable business & federal sources where the company would be required to submit legitimate business credentials to be included. These are not sources that are known for listing "fakes" or "scams".
Because this company's recruiters use the same basic template with all their communications, it feels like it may be a scam because of the repetitive language. I discovered they also use generic job descriptions for some jobs posted.
But I don't agree that simply because they are controlling how inquiries are presented by their recruiters, that we should eliminate them as a scam. I suspect (as someone else already alluded) they have employees from other countries or for whom English is not their primary language. Thus the templates & canned language ensures information is presented grammatically correct with appropriate English writing or speaking standards.
I'm not suggesting that this company is one of the best recruiting firms - as demonstrated by their canned communications approach. However, I do assess that they are identifying candidates for legitimate positions.
As for the request regarding the last four digits of your social security number, I found an article in the NY Daily News dated Oct. 16, 2012 that explained as follows:
"There are scams out there. You can sometimes identify them by super-short job postings, in all caps, with no email addresses. The big red flag is an immediate response asking for more personal information. Chances are it’s just your information they’re after.
“One common thing that freaks people out is when [an] agency [asks] for their [Social Security number] or the last four digits of it,” says Megan Pittsley, a San Francisco-area recruiter. However, to prevent duplicate referrals, many large corporations now require agencies to provide this information when they submit a candidate, she says. “It's becoming a more common practice,” she says. “My best advice there is just to know who you're working with.”

Hope the above helps to calm your worries. I feel confident enough about this company that I intend to engage further with them in hopes that they can help me find a new job.
Like many of you, I do not want to pursue a scam or waste my time. But in this crowded job market I've decided this is an informed risk that I am going to take. So many people are looking for jobs, and if a legitimate recruiter is willing to present my resume to a prospective client, I'm willing to share the last 4 digits of my social security number and see where things go from there!- Caller: Infotree Services
- ShillHammer replies to Sarah in VirginiaLooks like a shill for the fraud posting lies and garbage here folks - be warned!!
- Sarah in Virginia| 2 repliesI checked back to see if my earlier posting was fully included and saw the reaction to my post.
I'm not a Shill - but someone who is striving to get a job in this tough job climate. I have no reason to lie - I'm trying to help people who really want a job to not limit an opportunity. I spent hours researching this recruiting firm before I decided to take a chance on them and I wanted to save others that time or help those who may not have the time to do their own research.
Of course NO ONE should ever give their entire social security number to any recruiter. But the last four digits is not unreasonable as the NY Post article shared.
Just like I would NOT give anyone a few digits of my ss# AND my Date Of Birth. That's too much personal information that could be used to perpetuate a scam. NO bank account or credit card information either.
Certainly I didn't write the article in the NY Post that says it is more common these days to be asked to give a few digits from the SS#. If I was out to scam & lie, I would not have included the full link to the news article.
Do NOT give your full SS# to anyone - but a few digits - I can see how that would help both the recruiting firm & the company hiring to be able to track for multiple applications. Plus if hired, then when submit paperwork for the job all the credentials must match those 4 ss# digits - which helps to confirm you are not using false credentials.
I have purchased services from the 3 credit reporting services to alert me about new credit, bad credit postings or inquiries to my credit information. I worry about identify theft just like everyone else, but I also take responsibility to look at my credit report periodically to be sure no one is establishing credit in my name using my credit report. There are ways to safeguard against what we are worried about.
I am more inclined to think that those who are writing against Infotree Services are from recruiting firms who are competitors to Infotree. In the DC area where I live, it is not uncommon for several recruiting firms to identify candidates and submit resumes to companies for the same job ad. All the recruiting firms will run the exact same ad on the job boards - exact same wording.
Companies do not use just one recruiting firm in this DC region. I think if Infotree is getting too much business then perhaps those competitor recruiting firms may be writing on these websites to keep people from doing business with Infotree. It's hard for some of us to find jobs, and we should assume that it's just as hard for recruiting firms to find companies with jobs to fill.
I also wonder how many of those writing on these sites saying that Infotree is a scam because asked for 4 digits of ss# are in fact employed and get a regular paycheck? For those of us who are struggling to find a job, we need to trust our gut, do our research, and be careful. But not eliminate a chance. I am not going to trust the word of a competitor or someone who is getting a pay check but likes to post on the Internet tell me to avoid a legitimate recruiting firm.
My only point to everyone is that being asked for 4 digits of the ss# is not a reason to refuse to pursue a discussion with a recruiter from Infotree or any recruiting firm. NEVER give them your full ss# - but 4 digits - I can live with that. It's when recruiters ask for too much personal information beyond what is on your resume that you need to put up the red flags. They don't need all that personal data to submit a resume.
My husband works in the IT industry and he was unemployed for about 6 months before finally getting another job. He told me that it is true that some hiring companies insist that a resume is only represented by one recruiter / firm. So once a person commits to one recruiter to submit his resume, then one has to decline calls from other recruiters for the same job.
Companies do not want to waste their time reviewing applications for the same applicant over and over. Plus he says that recruiting firms want to be sure that they do not have multiple recruiters from their firm submitting the same applicant to a hiring company. Names change - people get married, get divorced, add a middle initial, etc. But the last 4 digits of your social security # is a constant that can be relied on by those tracking your resume in a databse.
My husband said in fact he was told that if more than one recruiter submits the same resume, some hiring companies will elimate the application because they don't want the hassle of trying to figure out which recruiting firm will deserve the commission if the candidate is selected. He says applicants do NOT want multiple agencies submitting your resume to the same company as will just get you elmiinated.
My husband also told me that when he was looking for work last year, if he told a recruiter that he had already been submitted by another recruiting firm based on an ad with the exact same wording, then the others would stop communicating with him. So he is pretty sure that all the recruiting firms know which hiring companies do not accept multiple submissions for the same applicant. He told me that's why recruiting firms will instruct you to not allow any other recruiter to submit you for the same job - because your resume will be eliminated.
In my house we have lived with unemployment - first my husband and now me. There are so many people looking for work these days and I'm sure that recruiting firms are competing hard for those employers with jobs which will accept resumes from multiple recruiters.
I don't know about you, but if I have a real chance of getting an interview and having my resume put before an employer with a job - I don't want to elminate that possibility because someone on a website tells me it's a scam.
This is long but I know what it has been like for me searching for a job. And I'm sure that those who are coming to this site trying to decide whether to respond to a recruiter are also wondering the same things I've been wondering. I just felt a need to tell you my story (and my husband's experience) so you can make an informed decision.
I will agree however - InfoTree really should move away from the canned repetitive language so not the exact same wording for every email. At least have more than one template to be used.- Caller: Infotree Services
- S. RobinsonI received a call from Murali with VIVA, offering me a position in a nearby, small, southern town. It was Requisition No. 2332441. When I received the information, it was a job in trucking logistics for which I am not qualified. When Murali called back and I told him I wasn't interested, he almost began to recite the benefits of the job. After a couple of words, he said "Thank you," and hung up.
Four hours later, I got a call from Martin, with Infotree. When he began his pitch with the same accent as "Murail," I asked if I had talked with him earlier. He said no, and offered to send the job description and an offer of $30.00 per hour, 8-month contract. Interestingly, the Requisition No. was 2332441, the same as the first call. It was for a different business, but in the same nearby, small, southern town.
I did respond with a resume, rate he offered, availability, citizenshp, DOB and last four of SSN. In a past position I used the last four to eliminate duplication of contacts, and there really is not anything a person can accomplish with the last four.
After reading the postings here, I tore off another email specifically instructing "Martin" that he was to delete my response and destroy any printed copies. They may be legit, but I'm not willing to take the chance. The SC Income Tax computers were hacked, and more than 3 million people had their personal information, including SSN, bank account for auto-deposit, etc, potentially exposed and/or sold. SC is providing Experian ID theft protection at no cost, so if infortree or VIVA try anything untoward, they should get caught, or if they don't, I won't suffer lasting financial harm.
So, I hereby resolve to check on any "employer" or "agent" or anyone else cold-calling, unless I am familiar with them. I also notified Monster.com of these ploys.
I suggest that any of us who know someone in job-search mode, we refer them to this Web site. And, as the sgt on Hill Street Blues said, "Hey! Let's be careful out there."- Caller: Infotree and VIVA
