harassed for years for "debt" I do not owe   they are desperate

These guys (Portfolio Recovery) are genuine bottom feeders of debt collection industry. They buy old statute expired debt and through harassment tactics try to collect 10 to 30 cents on the dollar. Of course the minute anything is collected, the statute date resets to day 1 and their other outfits and ambulance chasers come after you. If you have noticed their letter of settlement is only for the debt with them, not original debtor or the next place they sell it to. The only way to fight these guys is to get with your state authorities. These guys know all the Federal loopholes.

It's not only Verizon.

I have no past due debt with Capital One.

Then I wonder why they are calling me.  I have no past due debt with anyone.

Hey DUH....if you think for one second anyone here will believe that the asshats at Portfolio aren't scammers, you must be living under one of the rocks they provide their employees.

They not only try to collect on written off, years old, way past the statute of limitations debt, they call people who never had said debt, they harass people who happen to have similar names or phone numbers to people on their lists and they harass neighbors and family members.

They use intimidation, foul language and baseless threats to scare innocent people into giving them their money.

They are one of the lowest forms of scum there is and everyone here knows it.

Same thing no message left

Same number called me but I delt with them years ago when I had a different number. I agree they call your family saying things like "your daughter gave us permission to call you" which is nothing but a bold ass lie. For 1 I NEVER EVER give out family information. 2 there us a new website out there thatscammers and the like are using to verify who you are. Its called LexisNexis. Of course I woukd NEVER verify anything to these scum suckers. However I had an issue with Paypal and they used the above name I mentioned and oukled a recird and asked me what car I drove and where it was registered on this specific date.... Needless to say I was speechless amongst other questions they asked. I asked where they got their info from and gave me the number to call to have all my info removed from that site. So these scum debt collectors and scammers are using this information to call your family asking questions of how to reach you and so forth. Which violates the Federal Collection laws. And to top it off they even lied saying they didnt call so and so.

So NEVER give out or verify your information, make them verify who they are and to mail you documentation that they indeed own your debt. Also find out your States Statue of limitations because most likely they are trying to make you pay for a debt that is uncollectable!!!

Because if they speak or leave a msg they by law can't call you again for 24 hours. If they leave msg they get around the law and keep calling you.

They called and left a message on the answering machine of my husband's work on Friday (they were off).  Message had a phone number 5853918650 to call back a Mr Perez! He has a FEW accounts to discuss and if he didn't they would have to start court proceedings!  I doubt that was legal to say on the machine! I spoke to my husband's boss to get that info!

SOL is 3 yrs in Louisiana and 2 of then will be up on June 1st and the others are already past the SOL on my husband's CR.  He got sick, and he lost hours at work due to the economy going down, CRAP HAPPENED!  I'm not paying nor am I calling back! The recording that was left on our FEDERAL issued phone which NO ONE has the number for sounded like a call center so this all sounds fishy to me!

Certain call blocker apps for android only let you add up to 3 or 5 numbers which then you have to pay for the upgrade to be able to add more. There is a great app in google play called 360 Security. Not only can you block numbers but can blick texts too.

I have never received a letter from Portfolio about a debt.  I started receiving calls shortly after I posted my resume on careerbuilder.com I find it odd how they would not contact me via mail so I could at least ask for them to verify and prove the debt is mine.  I don't answer calls from numbers I am not familiar with.  Only way I found out about this allege debt collector was doing a Google search on the number that called.
Don't create a block list, I did that and one of the numbers (not sure which one) got through my block.  Now I just add each number to block.

Yep. They've been calling and using my maiden name, which I haven't had for 13 years, so any possible debt they might be trying to collect is a junk debt. My credit report is clean, and I've purchased two homes in the past 13 years and have good credit. These people buy bundles of old debts and attempt to harass people into paying something...anything on them.

Their intention is to coerce consumers into making a token payment so it can be reaged and placed on their credit report. They are currently harassing my sister over a defaulted credit card in which the SOL expired over two years ago. We just pick up the receiver and hang up on them every time they call.

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.

This number called, did not leave a message. If its so important they would have left a message. I'm tried of them calling me.

Incredible bottom feeding scumbags. They're calling trying to collect a debt (they sent a letter; I most certainly did not answer the bottom feeder's call!) from 14 years ago. Their letter (even) states/admits that the debt is past the time frame that I can be sued, and IF I speak with them, and agree to a payment plan, then the original lender can sue me. Yeah, no thanks! It's 14 years old. I'm sorry, but first off, the debt was paid off years ago, and secondly, who in their right mind would reopen something from that long ago, and allow themselves to be sued? Thanks, but no thanks, scum bags!!!!!

I blocked call , no message left comes up as a recovery for debt,  I don't answer if I don't know number and I sure don't owe any debts.

This is sneaky Portfolio Recovery Associates. They never stop calling & will chase you till  the grave! They paused for a month & are back calling AGAIN!!! Just never answer numbers you don't know cause they have too many to keep up with. They are debt collectors that will pull out all the tricks they can on debts that are written off or not owed at all. Simply do not respond to these bottom feeders.
