2 calls in two days from 760-526-8136..Both times the phone rings 4 times and then no one is there. I thought we had a national do not call list to avoid this stuff.

I live in San Antonio, Texas and just got a call from 1-760-526-8136, "California Call".  When I picked it up, the guy just kept saying, "hello"...despite me also saying, "hello".  I just hung up.  I am on the National Do Not Call list- but it doesn't seem to work.  Very frustrating!

Someone from this number called me but I was in an area with bad reception so I couldn't hear him well. He hung up after a few seconds.

I have been getting calls from this number for three days in a row.  When I call back, I get a recording that (NO LIE) sounds like someone flushing the toilet and a voice that says "I'm sorry, I can't do that right now".  I keep dialing and eventually get through to a recording that does not identify who they are, but says that if I want to be taken off the list to press 1.  I did that since the first call, for what good it's done.

I answered for the first time today and no one would say anything.

If we're all getting phone calls from 760-526-8136, why can't they be stopped from bothering us?  What can be done? I get a couple of calls a week without any message or caller ID other than the phone number in my cell phone window.  I've been unable to return their call to see who it is or insist they stop calling. I'm also on the Telemarketer Do Not Call List and if this is an example of how effective it is, it could use some improvement.

This is Time Warner.  I told them the first time that I wasn't interested in their long distance phone service, and they've since called me back SEVEN TIMES IN THE PAST 24 HOURS to see if I've changed my mind yet.  (They use this number and 8134 interchangeably.)

Keep getting calls when no one is home; they stay on long enough so that my answering machine picks up their office noise, but nothing discernible.  Dialed the number back and after a couple of seconds of very similar background noise, get a cut off message stating no one is there.  Press 0 during the noise, however, and you get transferring to an extension that will ring about a dozen times, then a message stating the name of the company -but said fast and unclear; sounds like "phoneware incorporated."  After message, you go into voice mail.

Call comes across as a Cellular Call. I called it back and get a heavy breather, then a message that says, "Sorry, I can't do that at this time." Called again, got the same thing.  Called a third time and got a message that says, "We're sorry if we reached your call in error. We only purchase and call business numbers. Please press one if you would like your number removed from our calling list."

That said, my mother answered the call one day and it was Time Warner asking about our cable service and what kind of plan we had. She told the guy to call back when I was home. (She's a sneaky bugger, though, and wouldn't tell him when I'd be home.)

I live in the 937 area code, too.  Here's the deal, or at least what I think the deal is.  AT&T is in this area laying cable for their UVerse Digital TV.  Time Warner is very worried about how this is going to affect their business in the Dayton area and they are trying to get people to upgrade their cable plans and sign a two year contract.  If you don't know that uverse is coming, you might be tempted to do this.

Got several calls from this number. Caller hangs up if answering machine picks up. Turns out to be TimeWarner Cable offering bundled service of TV Cable, digital phone, and RoadRunner Internet service for ~$100 after taxes. I'm already a TimeWarner customer so the nation-wide do-not-call registry probably didn't work for me since they have me in their client database.

Amazing, how many different names show up on the caller IDs (read above) for the same number.  They called me today and I didn't answer....the caller ID said SUCS.  I kid you not.  At least they're being honest.

I got a call from this number, (he was obviously in a call center becuase when i answered he didnt respond for a bit then he clearly took me off mute) and the guy on the phone said his name was Karpel Modin. He proceeded to tell me that last night he was drunk and hit my car. I literally just got out of my car half an hour ago and its fine. He told me he woke up in the hospital and  they told him he was drunk and got into an accident. He told me his insurance company gave him my number and he wanted to call to tell me they would be calling. He tried to verify my address and name and I wouldn't give him crap. I have a Phoenix area code on my cell phone so I'm not too sure what to make of this... I saw a LOT of posts saying this is a TW number. Anyone know what to do?

I was receiving up to three calls a day from 760-526-8136. My caller ID registered as SVCS.  They would never respond when I answered the phone and would leave blank messages on my machine...it was harrassment. I notified my state attorney general and recommend others do as well. I live in the San Antonio area.

I did the same as Paul: called the 800 number for phonewareinc.com that he so helpfully listed, (Thanks, Paul) asked the very courteous young chick to removed my number from their lists. She asked for my number, and promised that it would be removed within a few hours.

Tonight I got a call from 760-526-8136.  Caller ID said 'California Call'.  When I answered nobody was there and the line soon disconnected.  Search info indicates this number is out of Oceanside, CA in San Diego County, account in the name of Time Warner, and that it is a wireless number.  How legit that info is, I don't know.  The whole thing seems fishy to me.
