I run my own Voip Server with a peer and i can call you from any number i want.. So prank calls are easy,
plus this new voip service by google will be abused by con artists an such.

So IGNORE any call you get from this number since it may not be your friend at all, or anyone you know.
Remeber the Area code as well. If google sells people there own number then it will prob have the area code this number has thus allowing more scams to arise.

Yes the calls are limited to the U.S. Free of charge but the fact is that most con artists live in other countries. Thus if they use the service and say they live in the U.S. then they call call a whole list of harvested numbers in the U.S. and try to scan unsuspecting victims.

This new service will be more abused then Skype.

This is a number that shows up when someone calls you from Google Mail. It could be a friend calling and trying out the service or it could be some annoying person who doesn't want you to know who's calling. In any case IT'S A GOOGLE CALL from GOOGLE MAIL.

Okay, so this is getting annoying. There's a man on the phone who asks me questions about personal details. I'm infuriated by this because it's like a violation to my privacy. I don't even know how he has my cellular phone number. Then he starts swearing at me with crude language.  I want this stop now.

It's just a wealth of info being spread around by stupid people not knowing or caring what they do!

i dont have a facebook and these [***] sucks are still calling me, if you dont answer they will call right back, i hung up and they called right back, its really [***] annoying.

One of your friend (most likely an enemy) is using the Google Voice phone service to call you. Call the police and let them know that it's a Google generic number. They'll (should) contavt Google to track the User ID of the Gmail/Google account it came from .... etc.

they called at 11:48 PM and called 13 times in 20 min.

They just started calling me, I answered because I thought it was my friend who was out of the country. They keep calling and hanging up. Very annoying.

I go to this online website,
And I've had people get a hold of my number & harass me through skype number.
To hear this is a google number completely scares me.
I really don't want to be harassed again.

I've been getting DOZENS of calls from this number, always dead air on the other end. Extrremely annoying, I hope google shuts this off soon

The problem is if this is the deafult number for EVERYONE who sets up their gmail free phone service, HOW AND THE HELL CAN I DIFFERENTIATE WHO IS CALLING ME?

Until google makes it FREE and EASY,  for people who use the gmail phone service, to obtatin their PERSONAL phone number - f**K this service; and it's stupid default number too!

What are we going back into time here? THere is a point to caller ID, and with this new gmail service, what's the advantage of having caller ID? None!
