- billSame scammers calling from this new number. i have received calls for another person for at least 5 years and I have had the number for at least 20 years. I recognize the name because it is the same name as a teacher from my elementary school days. Didn't say the company they were calling from, but said it is a recorded line.
- Not SCAMMED by UCB Tele-Criminals!UNITED COLLECTION BUREAU, INC. calls from 800-210-3534 then hangs up when you answer. DO NOT CALL THEM BACK! If you do, then they will record that "YOU CALLED THEM" and now it's all legal for them to SCAM you out of your money.

- Ali replies to BigA| 1 replyIf they try subpoena you for the large debt but it was the wrong address, can they try to get their money any other way, liens & etc? I’ve searched for the answer but can’t find any specific info on it.
- BigA replies to AliFirst I have to ask if you took the time to read my post on page one and used the provided link to learn?
Subpoena's are used to compel a witness to testify or to provide evidence. If they said that they are going to subpoena you then they are lying since they must first serve you with the complaint.Quote:If they try subpoena
I am not sure what you mean by other way. In most cases in order to put a lien they must first sue you and win their case. They would then obtain a judgement. Once the judgement is obtain the law specifies what they are allowed to do to collect it. If they served you at the wrong address and they have obtained a judgement you can get that judgement set aside. You will need a consumer attorney for that. It sounds as if you have a great FDCPA case and you should be suing them. Everything you should be doing has been detailed and can be seen by using the link in my aforementioned post.Quote:try to get their money any other way, liens & etc? - DeboraFraudulent, harassment calls

- RJI get calls from this number daily. Most often they do not leave a message but when they do it appears to be a debt relief company. Thankfully I am NOT in need of their services. It is most annoying.

- anonymous replies to No namei| 2 repliesThe do not call list is a joke. Scammers use it as a reference to get live numbers and the FCC does NOTHING. When I signed up my junk calls increased.
- Nimrod replies to anonymousScammers do not access the Do Not call Registry for a list of "live numbers". It is far easier and cheaper for them to use auto-dialers and software to dial through every number in an area code ("live" or otherwise) than jump through the hoops and pay the fees needed to get access to the Registry's lists.
Besides, why would you pay money for phone numbers of people that DO NOT want to be called?
For a legitimate telemarketer to access the Registry's lists they first have to register with the FTC and prove that they are a legitimate business (which means they have to submit documentation that will be checked by the FTC). After they are vetted and approved then they can pay the FTC fees (according to a price schedule set up each year) that give them access to the parts of the list that cover the areas they will be calling. More numbers means larger fees. Access to the whole list currently costs over $18,000 for one year. (These fees pay for running the registry, not taxpayer money).
If you have received "more" calls since registering it is mostly due to two things:
1) You are paying more attention to the number of calls you are receiving since you are expecting a decrease. And after the 30-day grace period, the number of legitimate telemarketers calling you did decrease, since they follow the rules.
2) The number of calls being made by scammers (who care about no laws or governmental rules) and illegitimate telemarketers (that flout the DNCR rules) has been increasing month to month over the past several years, so on the list of not you would have received more calls.
You should also note that if this caller is a valid debt collector, they are exempted from the DNCR rules by the regulations that define the Registry, as are charities, survey takers/pollsters and political calls. - Kat* replies to anonymousWell, if you feel your "junk calls increased" after you signed up on the DNC list and that it's all the fault of that list, go ahead & remove your number. Bet it won't reduce the calls one iota.
- Ms VThey called and left a message. The number they are calling has never been used by me for the purposes of obtaining debt. I use my home number for everything and not my cell. I emailed United Collections and advised that I was receiving these harassing calls to a number that is not associated with any debt I have obtained and that if there was truly a debt they needed to send that to me in writing. Never received a response in email or the mail and that was months ago. I tried calling their corporate number and was on hold forever before I finally hung up. Still have no idea why they are calling.

- MadThis outfit has called me from two different numbers. One was a toll free number and the other was based out of Florida. Today they left me a message to call back at the number listed in this thread. They did not state who they are trying to reach. A recent review of my credit report shows late payments in the past but everything is current. None of my accounts are past due or in collection status. I do have credit monitoring and have not received any notices in the mail.

- Fkov replies to BigA"Make them pay." As if!
You can't "make them pay" because you will never be able to find out who and where they ACTUALLY ARE.
There's a reason.we all get these calls all the time, people!... cause nothing can happen to them. You may think "oh, it's this UCB company on Florida, or wherever." Yeah... good luck with that. These fx are off-shore... duh. - Fkov replies to TygerkatYou're half right. The DNC does apply to telemarketers, but these are not telemarketers OR debt collectors. They ARE off-shore professional con-artists intent on one of two things:
1) Get you to send them cash.
2) If that fails, then con you out of your personal information and run up some debt FOR you. Bonus if they get you to fall for both!
That's how this works, people. And they count on old folks and others less savvy, or downright dumb, to fall for it.
Don't be stoopid.
