- Sara| 4 repliesI got a letter from Social Security Administration. It was a "call-in notice" with the number 800/227-8835.
- Caller: Social Security Administration
- Robin replies to Sara| 3 repliesI got a letter of the same thing from Social Security Administration regarding an over-payment in 1980, that i had physically paid back. In 2013, they apparently withheld this same dollar amount from my taxes with no notification. Now, in 2018; they want to give the money back to me, and they say that If I accept the money back, it will be a debit from my taxes next year. This makes no sense to me at all.
- BigA replies to RobinCall the Social Security Administration up at a known, published phone number.
- Bernice replies to Robin| 1 replyI got the same letter in Friday. Was you able to speak to someone about this letter because I haven't been able to get through the phone keeps hanging up. It states that they our busy to call back later..
- Elspeth replies to BerniceDo what BigA advised - call the Social Security Administration on a known, published phone number - NOT the number on that letter.

- DeterminedI received the call in notice also. After I had called for 5 days I decided to research the number because I wasn't able to get through. I called the Social Security Administration published phone no as suggested. They told me the 800-227-8835 no is valid. I tried on a Thursday and I finally got through!!!

- Frustrated| 2 repliesI received this same letter a few months back. Made many attempts over several days to try and get through and was unsuccessful. I then wrote a letter to SS and included a copy of the letter I had received. No response. However, today I received a "Call-In Notice (Second Attempt)" letter. I will try again but if unsuccessful I will make a physical visit to a SS office in the near future.
- Frustrated2 replies to Frustrated| 1 replyI received a Call-In Notice as well. With the same results as everyone here. I too have a SECOND ATTEMPT letter. I went to my local SS office today and was told that they couldn't help me. The only thing the representative could do was send that office an email requesting that they call me. He said just as the letter states "We can best serve you with is important matter over the phone, so please call instead of visiting one of our offices." It is true. The local office cannot access the financial information. I will keep trying to call.
- Juli replies to Frustrated2Have you had any luck? I as well have received a 2nd call in notice and have been calling since the 1st of September and still have not receive a call back. I was given a second number to call by my local SSO, 877-405-4437, and still nothing....
- MichaelI also received a second notice. I googled name and phone and everything looked legit. Finally got through, lady asked for name, birth date, city and state and mothers maiden. also said she was from SS. it came down to they would issue me a check for $100.01 but I would be required to repay it. doesn't make since, I reported it to office of inspector general.

The Social Security Administration heard of a number of scams where individuals posing as Social Security employees call and ask for personal information like your name, Social Security number and bank account information.

- Cas M YoungI recieved a notice of this type, seems more than suspicious. Letterhead style is abnormal from any SSA form I've ever seen. And I've had enough robo-calls from cloned numbers anythings possible. Suggest calling main Social Security Administration in your State or the Federal office in Maryland to verify.
