- Watch OutI just got called by someone claiming to be a tech support from a company called "IMAX". His name was "Jake". It was about 9:15 p.m. here in Hawaii. He said that he was windows certified and that my computer was 75% corrupted. I am usually very skeptical but he gave me a number to call (800) 247-0830 to see if he was legit. I called the number on my cell phone while talking to this guy and got a recording. This made him seem legit so I entered in the word he gave me into a box that he had me open on my computer. The word was "eventvwr". Once I did that I could clearly see that he was able to navigate himself in my computer. He opened a box that show 1791 attacks on my computer and said my computer is compromised and that all my information can be seen by the hackers. He assured me that he could remove and correct my computer but that I should do it immediately. He tried to sell me a 2 year license for $150.00 for Firewall + Anti Malware by test and Junkware removal, Anti Hacking plus 2 year free tech support or I could purchase the Life time license for $300.00. I told this guy whose name is supposedly Jake that I never purchase anything without giving it more thought and told him that I would contact him. He tried harder to get me to purchase now but I told him that he doesn't seem to understand that I never purchase anything right away especially from someone I don't know. He left me with the same number to call and said goodbye. I then called the company I bought my computer from and the computer support team looked into my computer the same way that the scammer had me do. The support team said that my computer had all the anti-virus installed and that it was running fine and that my computer was 95% clean which they said was great. They said that the caller was definitely a scammer. After posting this, I will try to call the appropriate agencies to see if I can get this guy caught and placed in jail.

- binkygirl99I received a call with a four digit caller ID number 3009, which made me suspicious from the get go. The guy calling said his name was Jack. He had an Indian accent, and I could hear a bunch of people talking in the background like he was in a call center. He asked for me by name. He knew I had recently purchased a computer. He told me he was working for Microsoft and they had received a report that my computer had a very bad virus and it was going to crash immediately. This also raised my suspicion. He asked if my computer was turned on and I said no. He practically ordered me to turn it on. I said I couldn't, I didn't have it with me. He said I didn't understand, I need to turn the computer on immediately because it's going to crash if we don't fix it. I told him again I didn't have it. He asked where it was. I said at home. He asked where I was. I said at work. He asked when I'd be home so he could call me back, and I said I didn't know. He demanded I give him a time to call me back so he could fix my computer. I said I didn't know how long I would be because we were in the middle of a hurricane (true story). I said maybe 7 - 8 hours, asked him for a number and told him I'd call him back. He gave me this number. He again tried to pinpoint me into a time where HE could call ME, but I told him I'd call him. He was demanding throughout the call, tried to intimidate me with urgency and scare me into doing what he was ordering me to do like some army commander. Immediately looked this number up on the internet and found many other people had received the same treatment. Obviously, this guy does not work for Microsoft and even if the product they are trying to sell is a real product, they most definitely are scammers in that they try to deceive and scare you into believing that they are Microsoft and that they somehow "know" something is wrong with your computer (when it's fine). What was interesting was that he knew my name, and he knew that I had recently purchased a computer. He had to have gotten the info from somewhere - did someone sell my info to them? Best Buy, where I got the computer? Microsoft support, where I registered? Who knows. At any rate, this company uses underhand and dishonest tactics and should be out of business.

- D replies to Ola| 4 repliesPossible SCAM ALERT! Just received 2 phone calls today from "Windows Certified Department". He claimed that there are Window Software problems on my computer. I was to open my computer and open "Properties Settings". He would then show me which corrupt data that were infected with a virus and at that point could fix the problem with the Windows Program Update software. This seemed very suspicious so I told him that I would call back. At first he insisted that the "fix" would only take a few minutes. I told him I was leaving and insisted that I could only talk to him tomorrow. He gave the number, 1/800 247-0830. And when I asked for a reference number he said to just ask for David. To clarify the problem of the software virus...- I then lost connection. He called back a few minutes telling me again that he could fix the software problem. I told him that I decided to call my computer software service and would give them his number to ask any questions. Again, he hung up on me.
I googled the phone number and it listed this number as being a scam from others have received these calls too. Very suspicious. So please be aware. Do not open your computer to them. Please share this post - Warren replies to DPOSSIBLE scam alert??? This is SO common I'm surprised every person on the planet has not heard of it. Much more than suspicious-- you're lucky you didn't fall for it.
- Tamianth replies to DIt is a scam, and yes they have been doing this for a long long time now. The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

- RobReceiving three or four calls a day from these people for the past month, "unknown number". When I finally picked one up I got the same spiel as above, requested a number to call back and got the 800-247-0830 number. I asked to be taken off the call list and was told that I would need to pay them $200 for that. Definitely scammers, and the calls just keep coming.

I'm panicking in my mind thinking, holy crap Hackers. These people even gave me fathers name saying my number belong to him. He lives with me is elderly 81 and with cancer. He wouldn't even know how to turn a computer on. Still how did they get his name associated with my number ?? I got upset with the lady and she puts some guy on and he becomes more aggressive. After giving him a peace of my mind I hung up still wondering how they could have connected my dads name with my number.

- ShirleyReceived call from 1-800-247-0830. He was very persistent to have me log into my computer and to assist him to walk me through the virus he said I was having. Told him no and that he can give me his number (knowing what he was going to say). After giving his number to me, he just hung up. The number and name that came up on caller ID was "Leonardo" and the number was 530-287-8505. I did not bother to call it back and have no intention of calling the above number.

- BarbaraI got a call from Benjamin who told me he was calling me from Miami for the reasons stated in previous posts before this post. This sounded like a scam to me and I thought I would take notes while he explained to me the problem he thought I had, with the intention to share them with a computer tech I trusted. My computer took too long to boot up and he called me "honey" during the wait. I hung up. He called back 4 times and I never answered his calls.
