- EdThese idiots claimed to be from "internet security" and something was wrong with my computer. Being i'm a PC tech by trade, I know this scam well. They may get your name right, but don't let them know if they did or didn't. Don't give them access to your computer. They're out to get your credit card info or sell your information.
Microsoft doesn't monitor home computers that closely and Corporate networks do from software your IT Department loads.- Caller: Internet Security

- MatRuthless con artists. They stole my credit card number when i signed up for dish and tried charging me a recurring payment that showed up on my statement as "ableware recurring payment"
If you google ableware it's a Tupperware company. I got a voicemail thay was really strange because it wasn't an automated message and he claimed it was a courtesy call and not to mind the recurring payment because it's my dish protect package. And it was the exact same price--$12.99 a month, except i knew right away there was a scam because my dish protect was free for 6 months and according to a real dish representative it would be right in my bill. I had to make a new bank account to get a new credit card and lock the old one. They haven't stopped calling since, but no voicemail. I blocked the number.- Caller: 8002493022
- HODINIReceived phone call showing Caller ID (a good thing for everyone to have) showing "TOLL FREE," which is a common ID for scam callers. (Also: "UNKNOWN" and "Out of Area.) I do not answer when I see one of these unknown caller IDs. But what I do is take down the phone number showing in the caller ID window on the phone. (Or, if the unknown caller hangs up before I can write it down, I use the *69 telephone feature which tells you the number of your last phone call, and I write down the number an automated voice from "Caller ID" tells you. Then, I will go to my computer and check 800NOTES for the number and view the comments of other people who have received phone calls from the same number and have posted warning comments. For example, for this 800-249-3022 number there are a lot of comments warning of a scam. And I know I have not missed a call from someone legitimate source. But, even so, I can nevertheless console myself that it would still have to have been from someone who does not identify who they are...and it is simply my rule that anyone I know and with whom I would want to talk would show a true ID I could recognize. And that if they cannot contact me by phone, then there is land mail and the post office for them to make contact and tell that they could not make telephone contact and I could then tell them why so they can correct their Caller ID to something that is recognizable. It is a good system to follow. Many people have been "trained" to interrupt anything they are doing to answer anyone who calls them...and the scammers know this. I often remark that some people, even if they are talking to God Himself would, whenever the phone rings, say: "Excuse me," and pick up the phone. My advice to anyone so trained who is reading this is to get over that training and think twice before answering any suspect Caller ID. As I say, if the call is from someone important to you, there are other ways they can always reach you...and don't worry about it. It is not your problem. It is the caller's problem. Follow this advice and you can sleep comfortably at night without the bothersome worry some people carry with them that maybe they may have missed an "important" phone call. YOU HAVEN'T MISSED A THING. What you have done is averted a very probable serious scam problem.
