    Is this a scam
‭I received an automated voice message from this number +1 (800) 272-9446‬.  The message did not identify who, where, what to call was in reference too.  Then, I received a text from the same number.  Regarding a purchase I made online.  To reply Y or N if I made the purchase.  It was in regards to fraud activity detection.  I called the number back.  It was a recording only.  It did not identify the company or give an option to speak to a person.  The automated recording asked me to confirm my name, my number, my last purchase, my last 4 of my card, and last 4 SS#.  I hung up the phone because it was asking too much information and did properly identify the company.  Did not offer an option to speak with a live person.  Is this a scam??

No, not a scam unless someone is spoofing the number.  This is the credit card processing/fraud detection that my bank uses (along with many others) to notify you when there is unusual activity on your account. I have received a few calls from it over time.

Yes, it's legit.  It was my bank's payment processing fraud center, because I had a lot of transactions in the middle of the night and they (understandably) assumed it was fraud.  There are many banks that use the same company, and that is why you see a lot of different banks named in the reviews.

Yes! It is a scam! Don't EVER give your social security number especially over the phone unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO to someone you KNOW you can trust...even then, though, there are other options. This is DEFINITELY a scam. I just got the same call saying they were from my bank. My bank would NEVER send an automated recording like that. Stay vigilant. Thieves are everywhere and in force!

How can you say "Yes, it's legit" when scammers spoof legitimate phone numbers all the time? And why are you even here? Do you often look up known phone numbers?

I received a call from this number, it identified what credit union it was from, and did not ask me for any information, other than to confirm if I authorized a specific transaction.  Several credit unions use this service to detect fraudulent activity.

IF you get a call like this, compare the phone number to the one on the back of your debit card.  I did (exact same number), called the number directly, and found out someone was trying to charge on my credit union debit card.  Now I have to wait for a new card, but it's a small price to pay compared to someone cleaning out my checking account!

This morning, my husband got a call from this number on his cell. They left a voicemail message for ME and they had the last four digits of MY debit card. I called the number back and the person could not find me in their system, even though the v/m message used MY name and last four of MY card number. She asked for a lot of information that is a matter of public record, but when she asked for HIS whole credit card number, I told her we'd just get in touch with the bank tomorrow (banks are closed today). I'm leery of this and I don't know if it's legit or not. I guess I'll try to post an update once I've spoken with our bank personnel.

Caller said they were Amazon calling about a $500 gift card purchase and wanted me to.follow prompts. I sensed fraud and hung up. I've been a long time Amazon prime member and they have never called me. I checked my Amazon account and there were no such purchases .

Scam! I had the same call. I DO NOT HAVE A CREDIT CARD! If you have a credit card, call the number on the back of the card or walk yourself to the bank. Never respond to these calls ever!

So after all of that you decided to look the number up anyway to tell us that it is legit?  What logical reasoning would be behind that act?

This is NOT the number on the back of my card, and NOT my bank. Further, NOBODY does a google search on a “legit” number so they can come here and add to this discussion.

Got the same call this morning and came here searching. Ended up calling back because I got a text too. They asked detailed questions so I hung up and called my bank. Just got off the phone and a purchase I made on Etsy was flagged. They said that’s their card services number
