My dad almost got scammed by someone using this number. Someone used this number to call and then got him to activate a video chat on his Mac computer. They then told him to get a google gift card to pay them. My sister walked into the room and the video chatter bailed and my dad's Mac restarted. We did a hard drive wipe and reinstall.

So I agree with all the others that this seems to be a legitimate number to Apple; however, it is being spoofed. I received an unexpected call yesterday from ‘Apple Support’ about ‘suspicious activity under my Apple ID.’ And Eastern Indian man asked me if I have ever been to Russia and that he is seeing suspicious logins there under my Apple ID using my financial information. He told me to stop online banking. He then asked me to go to my labtop and press the Windows key and R. I already knew that holding the windows key + R means allowing someone to Remote in to my computer. They are hackers trying to hack your information and steal logins / banking. I hung up and logged into my Apple ID and REQUESTED a cal. I spoke to the real Apple Support and she explained that there have been many spoofing attacks and that Apple will NEVER call you unless requested through your Apple ID, they can never get your phone number wrong either. So you will never ‘accidentally’ receive a call. If you are receiving a call that you did not request, never give them your Apple ID or any information and God forbid, please do not allow them to remote into your computer.

Got several calls from this number and I was curious and finally answered and it was an apple (mac) computer scam. I was also curious, so I pressed '1' (which you shouldn't do) and, as usual, it was a person with a heavy Indian accent posing as an Apple computer representative (at which time I hung up).  So sick of this relentless predators!

Also, I see that this SAME 800 number has been used for may scams since at least 2007 (based on this exhaustive thread).  This type of predatory practice using the same number for years cannot be stopped!?

BEWARE!!!  This is a total scam!  I don't have an Apple phone.  I don't even have any type of smart phone (just a cheap prepaid Tracphone).  This outfit is pretending they are some Apple related business.  They are nothing but scam artists trying to shoot fish in a barrel by cold calling people and banking on the odds that some of them are going to have Apple phones.  IT IS A SCAM!  DO NOT PICK UP THE PHONE.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFO!!!

Occasionally I update my LinkedIn profile.  Every time I do so, there are junk calls in and this is one of them.  The LinkedIn linked up my phone number with my profile WITHOUT my consent and provided such a convenience to these spam calls.

I got a call from this number.  I was told they need to access my Apple devices to fix them.  When I asked what they mean by Apple devices they become kind of irritate I subspected a scam so I act ignorant.  When I said I don’t understand what they meant they really become irritate.  I said I don’t know how to do what you ask.  They asked is there someone there that can.  I said maybe IT could help.  They gave this number for them to call them back (626) 407-2142.  I checked it is a scam.
