- Jeff| 4 repliesI received a call from someone claiming to be working with my credit card providers and wanting to lower my interest rates. I asked "which card" they were referring to and they said "all my cards". The Caller ID was 1-800-285-8585 which seems to actually be a US Bank #. I guess someone is falsifying the Caller ID.

- Cat PillowA woman's voice said "I am from your credit card company". She did not mention the name of the company. She said I could take advantage of a limited time offer for me to lower my interest rate and wanted me to press "1".
Dialing the number back got the same recorded voice saying she is from Card Member Service and she will be helping me with my account.
I do not have any credit card debt, so lowering interest is not an option that would apply to me.- Caller: Credit Card Services

- ME| 2 repliesReceived a call from 800 Service with a phone number of 800-285-8585. They can lower my interest rate...so I pressed 1 and a telemarketer came on the line that sounded like a very nice older lady. She asked if I had credit card debt over $2500 and I told her yes and she said she could get me lowered to 6.9% approx. with all my credit cards. She asked for the customer service 800 number on the back of my card of which I gave to her. She asked me what the name of the bank was of which I told her. She asked which type of credit card I had of which I also told her. Then she wanted the credit card number. I told her I do not give out numbers over the phone and asked if she could send me something about her company via postal service. She replied that something was sent to us a few weeks ago and I told her I received nothing like that in the mail. She kept insisting on getting my credit card number, over and over again. I told her I would have to talk to my husband first and she said that would be ok and she would have to call me back but first she needs my credit card number!!!

- Leslie replies to Elizabeth FarinoKeep an eye on all your accounts including your bank account. You can do this online. If you do this online be sure you have your firewall activated and good security on your computer. There are free programs that are good, like AVG.
Make a police report so it is on record. If someone uses your number they may not use it for months so you have to keep checking. I guess you should contact social security and see what they say. I have not had my ss stolen, but someone got my debit card number and the security number on the back. I'm 99.9 percent sure it was a local restaurant. I caught the charges online within minutes of them being made because I check everything frequently.
You can also have alerts set up on your accounts. Have an email sent everytime there is a charge on your account. The emails usually come a day or two after the charge though, but if you can't check your accounts that often it is good. Set it up for any charge over a very small amount, like 3 or 4 dollars, or even one dollar. - Lesliecalled today, but it went to voice mail before I could answer. A "message" was left which was dead air. I am on the do not call list.
Called US Bank using the different number on my business card. They told me this is a US Bank number but it is for personal accounts. Called the 800-285-8585 number and talked to an operator. She said that this is a US Bank number, but they only call people if they are late or there is a problem with the account. They do not call to lower interest rates. They are aware that someone is using their number and are trying to fix it.
I was asked for my cc number, which I did not give. However, when I call any of my credit card numbers they always ask for your number, and the zip or some other identifying item. It is how they know you are the account holder.
The lesson here is not to give any info to someone who calls you, only give the information if you have called the company yourself, and then only if you know it's your credit card company.
Credit card companies only ask for the last four digits of your social security number, if they ask for that at all. - Fred Rodgers| 1 replyUS Bank says there is a scam using faked called ID, it is not really US Bank calling.
They are "looking in to it".
NEVER Give out personal information to anyone calling you.

- <pst likely Fraud attemptsAnonymously...that someone is posing as US Bank with a caller ID spoofer for the 1800-285-8585 to say they can lower your interest rates. This is not US Bank. It is a fraudster. US Bank usually only will call if perhaps you are past due or there are some potential fraud on your account. If you call the 800 285-8585# it will reach US Bank Cardmember Service. If someone calls you with that # on your caller ID and if you are sure you don't have a US Bank credit card...DO NOT give out any personal information. If you have a US Bank account, call back the# on your card or statement to verify a call.

- steve| 1 replyI am on natl do not call list since April 2010. This number calls offering to lower interest rates on credit cards. beware. When you call back, you get a recording to tell them your credit card number. Dangerous to do. This call is against the law, IMHO. And it is not isolated. The callmy numbef several times a week. I do not answer, then they leave a message.
I had answered in the past and pressed the number to be removed form the list. Ha. Never happened.- Caller: Credit caard services

- Wary in CA| 1 replyI received a generic call "this is your last chance to lower your interest rates. I was puzzled as it didn't say which card. I pressed "1" and the line disconnected. I googled the number, found this page and a note about it being a US Bank number. I called the # to ask what happened, but the rep said "we aren't making those calls, ignore."
