Called several times leaving no messages. My wife finally answered and a guy said he is calling from US Navy Vets Assoc. and asked for donations. She asked if they could send some information via mail our way first. He said only after the donation is made!? I wonder how many people actually make donations without learning about the charity first?

The lady said they were taking donations to send care packages to the men and women serving in the Navy.  I asked her for her address and she said she would send information directly to me, but I insisted that she give me her address.

Noticed several calls during the day on my caller ID.
I answered one call around 5:30 pm. The man asked in an arrogant forceful tone to speak to me directly (he had my last name.)

I asked who he was and what was this call regarding...he insisted "are you mr.xxxx?...is Mr.xxxx home?...I need to speak to Mr. xxxx!"

I replied; Sir, you've called our number and social convention dictates that you introduce yourself and inform of the reason for your call. I will not give you any information until you tell me who you are and what is this in reference to. He replied; "well, I guess I'll have to try again later then, then hung up the phone in my face".

The next time they call I will tell them to put me on the "do not call list". I'm listed on the national registry to prevent unsolicited calls. They are obligated by law to comply once asked to remove your number from their calling list. You can search for the registry and place your number on google.

The laws of new jersey prohibts law enforcement from soliciting donations and fund raising or contracting fund raiser for that purpouse. That is done by private fund raisers who do it for profit and keep the majority of the money. These are professional sales people and they are on comission (% per donation) basis. You can also search for info on law enforcement fund raisers.

"Navy care package" SCREAMS SCAM  to me.

Bottom line: THIS IS A SCAM AND POSSIBLE IDENTITY THEFT.
If they sense that you're not an easy pray, they'll just move on to the next victm. They want easy targets they can BS into donating.

NEVER, EVER GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. Do not send money or disclose personal Or finacial information to these people, demand to be put on their "do not call list". You can report them as well at the national registry that regulates tele marketing companies.

You have to watch out asking telemarketing companies to "take me off your list." Many companies buy one-time-use-only telephone listings. They will take you off the list, in compliance with the law, but then they buy another list that has your number on it, and they call again, also in compliance with the law.

If you are successful talking with someone, always tell them "add this number to your do not call list" even if your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry.

The company that called you.
