Citi bank called from this number while I was in their web site.  There was a voice message giving the security code that was required on the web page I was filling out.  Their way of validating the phone number

CiTi Bank called to give a security code. I was on their Virtual Card Site twice. Logged off and on again. The second time I did it, their security protocol must have kicked in.  Before the app opened the second time, a dialog box popped up and said they were going to send a code via a phone call to enter in the dialog box. Worked fine. Wasn't spam.

Got the same automated call...but I don't have a Citi account of any kind and haven't been anywhere near their Web site.
    • Caller: CitiBank. Maybe.

CitiBank has upgraded their Virtual Account Number application for PCs with an entirely new application. It now requires an additional security code be sent to your registered phone # to generate a VAN. I hope this was only a one time set up requirement and not a protocol for each VAN transaction.

Legitimate invited caller. Automated confirmation call for Citicard virtual account number setup.  I see there is nothing for that as a choice in the "Call Type" drop down list, so I guess posting positives about a number is not the norm. I have added this to my list of business contacts, because I have a screening system.

If you got such a call, and you did not do it, I expect somebody mis-typed the phone number. I don't see how a scammer could make use of this unless he thought he could listen in on the call. You hit * or # (forget which) and an automated voice reads off a 6-digit random number. You must then poke that into the website within 10 minutes before you can continue and set up the virtual account.

This is a spam call. They are trying to get your credit card number and social security number. Do not answer the call or give the information.

ID says: "800 Service"..... Not sure if this is legit or not. Legitimate companies need to show their name, especially if it is a robocall. In the two years since we've been using a call screener, we've had 86 real callers and 1085 scammers and unwanted sales callers, many trying to call repeatedly. Call, say nothing, ignore the screener's warning, and you get blocked! All scammers and unknown, unspeaking callers get blocked forever! Good riddance!

I was setting up "Apple Pay" on my phone, and they called AT MY REQUEST from this number with my automated verification code to complete the process. There was no "live" interaction, I received the code, and my phone was set up instantly - therefore the number is good. However, that doesn't mean a scammer couldn't spoof the number, although I don't see how that would help them. Without the ability to assign a viable code, it would be worthless.

It is a very suspected number, I called it to activate my Citi card, but it did not active the card at all! Instead, it asked me to give them my bank account numbers and my other credit cards numbers!

There is a scam in which people are calling and saying they are from a credit card company but they are actually tricking you into giving them your info. If You have someone calling hang up and call the company directly.  Sometimes even the name of the card company will appear on your called ID but it isn't legitimate.  BEWARE!

I was trying to make a purchase on Walgreens. It said u will receive $10.00 credit 💳 for purchasing w Master Pass. I used the citi master pass. Received a call to verify my account and a security code and the call came from Synchrony Bank not Citi Masterpass.  Called Citi Bank and right now its under investigation. Also called Synchrony Bank 🏦 to alert them.
