Any vendor can continue attempting to collect a debt long after it is extinguished by the SOL.  Unfortunately, that is not illegal.  How they do it is a different story.

If they're calling you about a debt that's beyond the SoL then they're wasting your time and there's Unless you're an IDIOT and you pay or agree to pay or even admit the debt is yours  Well, Then more power to ya    Your gonna need it

You'd better look for different work.

My fiance and I got a phone call from these people on October 10, 2012. My fiance answered the phone and put him on hold and hung up on him.  I don't know who they are.

They sell your debt to another agency right before the statue of limitations is up, and then it starts over.

I always answer there calls and play games with them.   Its a lot of fun.

Actually, the original creditor selling your debt does not reset the statute of limitations.  Only making a payment would do that.

Of course, just because it is past the statutes of limitations doesn't mean they can't try to collect on it.  Being past the statues of limitations just means they can't sue you in court and win.

This the 3rd debt collector trying to find someone with a different middle name. The first was Greentree, the other I cannot recall. According to them, they got my number from someone looking to collect a debt: that is how they got my number. I do not believe that. I called them and asked them to stop, and they said they would.

Can someone explain how this can be legal?

Recycled number for Jefferson Capital - debt collector

I stopped paying on their "Aspire" Visa Card after I was laid off during the "Great Recession" and my unemployment ran out (I spent three years looking for work to no avail and finally gave up, retired and began drawing social security). Anyway, Jefferson Capital has since sold the debt at least twice since I defaulted on it, doubling the original balance. They took me to court last year and got a judgment, despite letters informing them I am "judgment-proof" and they stood to gain nothing by doing so. A few weeks ago, the law firm who got the judgment sent me a letter asking me again to pay. I just shook my head in disbelief and fed it through the shredder. They must be getting ready to sell the debt and judgment again. Be my guest. If I had the ability, it would have been paid years ago. It's just amazing to me what these companies will do, in their attempts to collect a debt that would not even cover their phone bill for one day. They have spent probably thousands in legal fees alone trying to collect a few hundred bucks. Stupid is as stupid does...

Called my house number asking for somebody who used to have this number over 10 years ago. The collectors must be desperate.
