How did they have the Geek Squad Number come up in my caller ID .

It's called spoofing, and anyone with the right telco hardware or software (or just a VOIP line) can make their phone number and Caller ID say anything they want it to say. Phone companies simply don't care, because they are getting paid for every fake phone call, and are laughing all the way to the bank (then they laugh all the way home, too).

My checking account was debited $54 using this ph#. I called the ph# and 2 different people with Indian accents claimed to represent Geek Squad for Best Buy but I don't have a Best Buy account nor have I used Geek Squad! They of course wanted my account info to correct it. I will have my bank investigate but I smell a scam!

Received a call from this number (spoofed) at 10:55AM today on our home phone which we rarely give out.  Caller ID said Geek Squad.  We have done business with Best Buy over the years so I answered.  Recorded message said our Windows Defender was expiring today and our credit card would be charged $299 unless I pressed 1 to cancel.  I hung up.  We don’t use Windows Defender and we haven’t bought a computer from Beat Buy in over 10 years so I was 99.9% sure is was a scam.  Just to be safe, I called the Geek Squad and confirmed it wasn’t them calling; they do not sell subscription to Windows Defender and they won’t call to renew like that.  The representative on the phone asked what number called me and when I gave her the number (legitimate Geek Squad number on Caller ID) she was concerned and said she would report it.

Getting calls almost daily, caller ID says Geek Squad. One time a man with heavy accent was actually on phone saying he was following up on my computer repairs.

CID displays "800 Service" which of course is fraudulent. Other posters say it's Geek Squad, but I don't think so. Geek Squad is a branch of Best Buy which is a major corporation. They would not risk their reputation with spoofed numbers. FWIW, call came in on business line at 9:45 on a Saturday morning. Voice mail answered. Caller began speaking when VM picked up. Continued throughout VM message. No idea what they said because two voices were talking at the same time.

800 Service is not necessarily fraudulent.  It is a catch all that phone carriers put up when there is no other information for them to post.  I personally have gotten calls that were legitimate that displayed that CNAM.

It is not Geek Squad but a scammer using their number. I got a call for me to call press "1" for them to automatically fix "updates on my computer that crashed".  I called Geek Squad and they said the only time they would call you is if you had a computer in their shop and they would never randomly call to "fix" anything over the phone. somehow they are using geek squad number as it is a legitimate number but hear  this same lady on all scam voice mails for several numbers.

This company took money out of my account twice in 1 week for renewal fee. Without informing me. I had no idea. Because when I called Geek Squad they told me that I wasn't up for renewal. I still had a year on my contract. I'm reporting them in the morning. I found this too late at night.

How is this a corona scam?  it is helpful to others if they know what the pitch is.
