How did they ruin your account by spoofing Huntington's number?

A man called me from this number, saying he was from Huntington Bank. He said they flagged fraudulent activity on my account, and he needed to verify my identity. He asked for my online banking username and the answer to one of my security questions. He then used that info to change my password, log into my account, and send himself all the money in my account. Do not give any info to callers from this number!

Did you report this fraudulent activity to your bank? And why would you give them your information in the first place?! Scammers spoof legitimate phone numbers all the time so you should never trust a random caller to be who they claim. Instead, hang up & call whomever they claim to be @ a known phone number, such as the 1 found on their official website.

Called me today (sunday) morning twice, back to back. Don't trust it. What bank is open at 6:00am.

Called, said they were from Huntington Bank and there was suspicious activity on my account, caller had an accent from India.

Keeping calling non stop just trying to hack my card had the same number call me a few months ago to try and hack my bank very annoying that they keep call eight plus times a day!

careful all; 800 480 2265 called me and I have never banked with Huntington bank. Also called me by not my name on her voice message. Beware all.

This number called me 3 times over the period of 5 months or so and also sent me a text about Huntington bank fraud. I didnt reply and blocked the number but before I did they left a message saying exactly "this message is for (my full name)" and then there was a long pause and they said "hoorah mother f*****". It was a bit unsettling.

I got a text message asking did I authorize a $1500 Zelle transaction. Then I got a call from 8004802265 claiming to be from Huntington Bank Fraud. They asked me to verify my most recent 2 transactions and account balance. Then they told me I need to send the account balance via Zelle to “the confirmation #” using my name as the recipient! Do not fall for it. It’s a scam.

It's a fax trying to come through our regular line. Just beeps! Annoying!

Called pretending to be huntington claiming there were multiple fraudulent charges on my husband's card. She asked to confirm his card number, so i promptly took the phone. She claimed I had to confirm his card number to ne able to cancel the multiple charges amounting into the thousands. I advised I would contact huntington myself. She claimed if I didn't confirm now, the charges will stick and we would have to pay. I proceeded to berate the scammer knowing no institution would ask to confirm card number. I called her a scammy piece of [***], so she hung up on me. What a shame. Hope they call back.

Received multiple phone calls on the cell phone and did not answer. but then received a phone call from this same number on the land line. The caller claimed to be with HNB's fraud department and was checking on a debit charge that was declined from a Walmart in Holland, Ohio. He gave his name and HNB ID# and sent a text to the cell phone with an ApplePay link. Hung up and called the HNB customer service number (the same number) and was informed that no one had been in contact with me. I cancelled the debit cards and will have new ones sent. Definitely a SCAM.
