- ConcernedFist got text and then a voicemail message requesting I contact BoA and provide further info. Called the number on the back of my cc (different from the one provided - 800-496-9471) and BoA told me it was a scam and there was no problem noted with my account. Asked me to forward anymore texts and ignore phonecalls.

- Debi| 2 repliesThis is not a scam! I called BofA Main phone number not once but twice and both representatives they told me there is an alert on this account. I was to call the number on the letter I received. When I called I was cued to type in the Control Number and Identification number on the letter before a live person came on. when a live person came on the phone I only gave 1 identifying information. Nothing major. They read the rest of my information to me about the account. My address, social, birth date and knew my occupation. did not even want to know how much money was brought into the household. This is a government requirement. You will have to do this about every 3 years. I told her that they were listed as a scam and have FTC complaints. She said oh well people can say what they want but we have to do this.

- BoAconstrictor| 1 replyGlad I checked 800notes. Same MO. Sounded legit. Someone claiming to be from Bank of America wanted to verify my identity and information before telling me what it was about. I refused to verify anything until she told me whether it was a fraud alert. She wouldn't discuss it and referred to a letter I should have received in the mail. We went back & forth for 2 minutes, and I finally said to send the letter again to the address she had, and I'd respond in writing when I got it. Smells very fishy, and judging from the comments here, it is.
- Nice try Debi| 1 replyThe scammers are also responding here saying it's legit. Be careful!

- Dirty Dishes replies to Complete cleaning services| 1 replyDitto! Got a phony snail mail letter from Bank of America, requiring, a page of personal info. Looks very official, but WAIT, it's not. Just a scam. Please be aware and never give any info to anyone unless you have contacted your bank directly and verified it was from them.
- DW| 2 repliesThis is apparently a legit call. I'm completely on board with what others are saying about verifying all of these types of calls, so that's exactly what I did. I received a letter in the mail and then have received calls every day for the past 3 days. I answered the most recent and they immediately launched into asking for my information. I told them this sounded like a scam and that I would rather call the BoA number of the back of my credit card. So I hung up, called the # on the back of my BoA credit card, and then provided the operator with the number that called me as well as the control ID they provided. They confirmed that 800 496 9471 # is a Bank of America number and that there was a note in their system to transfer any callers referencing this number to the Know Your Customer response center. Apparently, as a result of changing fraud regulations over the past year(s), they are having to contact every customer to verify their information. So, in summary, keep being skeptical, call the numbers you know are right and confirm that way, but don't ignore this request as it's legit.

- Bits replies to Tired of this| 1 replyThis is a VALID number for BoA and NOT a scam.
They are trying to close accounts that have NOT been active, meaning some transaction at ATM or Teller.
You have FOUR ways to respond to their MAILED notice:
(1) Call that number, (2) FAX the form back, (3) Mail the form back (4) go to any branch.
It could not be simpler, and covers their ass.
If your info is NOT confirmed, they are required to CLOSE the account
and MAIL any cash balance in Cashiers Check to name and address on file.
So, IF you don't respond, you have only yourself to blame if the address is wrong.
The people you talked to are obviously idiots. There are 205,000 employees at BoA,
so it is entirely possible that some departments are NOT educated or involved in the process.
They send a letter first and then try to contact phone number on file.
ALL the multiple calls are necessary to support their closing the account by demonstrating they tried as could be reasonably expected. As with most corporate actions, it is for THEIR benefit, not yours. - Bits replies to LisaThis is a VALID number for BoA and NOT a scam.

If the person they called is NOT at that address or phone, and you told them that, they will CLOSE their account and probably send any CASH balance to the Unclaimed Property system of the last State of residence (or Texas).
If account info is NOT confirmed, they are required to CLOSE the account and MAIL any cash balance in Cashiers Check to name and last address on file. IF you know that person, or a relative, please contact them and give them the 800-496-9471 so they can intercept the money (if any) before it is sent to the State. It is much easier to get the money BEFORE the State gets it. But the State UCP systems work OK too. - Bits replies to MelThis is a VALID number for BoA and NOT a scam.

They READ what they have on file and you just CONFIRM or change it.
They read it, I just said yes, yes, yes, yes, and was done.
All I needed to do to identify myself was name, birthdate and LAST 4 of SSN.
Very quick and professional.
IF your experience is different, just call the number on the back of your debit or credit card or go to your branch.

- Liz replies to Nice try DebiI noticed that as well! They think they are so clever.
- Youthinkyoureclever replies to DWWow! You guys are really dedicated to your scam! How sad to take advantage of people that do t know any better, older folks, mentally challenged people etc. You should be ashamed of yourself!
- Don't get scammedYou guys, also please be careful using "Bank of America" websites. There's a page that is not a real site of theirs, if you try logging in it uses that info to log into your account. If you can, use the App. Please be careful, especially during the holidays followed by tax season!
