- Blah NowReceived a vm from this number saying urgent matter, here’s the reference number etc. I called and knew immediately this was a scam. A man named Brian answered the phone stating my profile needed to be updated and was going to ask a series of questions.
I hung up and called Bank of America through the BofA app.
Let them know what transpired and if my account needed to be updated. The representative stated they would never call requesting such information, she advised I block the number and report it as spam.- Caller: 800-496-9471

- SKTwo voicemails in two days from this number. First, a man, mentioned my name, said he was with BoA in Texas. Urgent about my account. No reference number. Second, woman, didn't mention my name or reference number, said she was with BoA in Arizona. Said reps available M-F to 7 pm. I don't have and have never had a BoA account, leading me to conclude this is a scam.

- KPMReceived letter in the mail requesting information "update" by March 7, 2022 so I can "keep my account(s) active". The phone number shown above was indicated as the number I can call and they will "take my information over the phone. Or I can go on line and respond to a message that didn't exist.
- GWI am shocked to report that the call from 903-496-9471 was legitimately Bank of America. They really were calling to complete account information - specifically whether or not the country was the United States. I called a number that I know to be Bank of America, and they checked the situation and connected me to the correct department. Even though this turned out to be legitimate, I would never call directly the number that was left on my voicemail or give them any information.

- EllenI too received a string of vm from this fake BoA scammer. How do I know it was a scam? I’ve do not now nor have I ever had any account with BoA. The message was very specific about updating my current account that was going to be suspended if I didn’t verify the needed information. I usually blow off these calls but this one kept coming to my office number. I’m an AUSA for the DoJ (I’m a federal prosecutor and have been for over 14 years). It interrupts my day and takes up our time to have spam calls intruding throughout the day on a line needed for legitimate work calls. This isn’t a law firm and I don’t have a huge support staff to field BS calls; I share the services of a legal assistant with 6 other AUSAs. His time is very limited and we guard it like it’s gold.
After receiving 6 of the messages I opted to call the number given and put a stop to it using the only method available to me. I got as much incriminating and confirming information from the scammer as possible first, such as their (the caller) location since I was going to record the call. My state is a one party consent state. Few states require dual consent so it’s generally not a problem. They almost never know why it is I’m asking that question. Then I ask them to identify what type of account they’re asking me to “verify” since it’s possible a real customer could have any number or type of accounts with a single financial institution. I then ask why it is if there is a problem with any account would the customer not be able to see it when viewing their account online. Similarly, why can’t a customer call the BoA customer support number to address any issue. It’s at that point I inform them who they’ve been calling and specifically my position, explaining they don’t want to kick this particular hornet nest. The calls stopped and haven’t resumed and it’s been a few weeks. My daughter, who is out of state in college, began receiving the calls this week and asked me what to do since she thought something happened to her bank account (which is with a different bank) and I happened upon 1800notes. Bottom line, the calls are 100% a scam. And I’ve forwarded the information I was able to gather to the appropriate cyber crimes investigators and via the IC3 (internal government law enforcement option) report portal.- Caller: “Bank of America”

- Debby replies to ExhaustedLol good one.they call daily
- Verified ScamI also received an “official looking letter” decided to call BoA directly. Was told NOT to fill out any info, email all info to the Fraud Department, and throw away the letter. Just received a call from 800-496-9471 from the “branch in Texas” following up as to why I haven’t completed the needed information. Called BS on the fake rep, hung up and immediately called BoA, was transferred to the Fraud Department who informed me that is NOT a valid BoA number and it is DEFINITELY A SCAM. I don’t have BoA accounts.

- TomMust be a scan. Say they are calling from BofA Texas. I've never even been to Texas.
Really scary how there are so many reports here saying it's not a scam. I guess the scammers totally infiltrated this website!- Caller: Bank of America

- StevensEven if it was legit, the worst that could happen is your account gets frozen. So then go to the bank or call them directly or go to your online account and unfreeze it. They even post false positives on chat sites dedicated to warning people about scams. One post will say it's a scam, and another will say it's legitimate. Don't be lazy with your account security. Deal directly with the bank on your terms - always.
The world is in the midst of a chronic epistemological crisis!- Caller: BofA Arizona (right)
