i was wondering if this was a scam but its listed with golden1 credit union as visa fraud prevention.  its a recording and i had to punch in a few questions to verify it was me, and then it asked me to verify a handfull of transaction types and their amounts.  did so and it said i could keep using my card.

I got a call from this number after purchasing an expensive textbook on Amazon. I dropped the call and went online to check if this was a legitimate phone number. It is not a scam it is Golden1's Fraud Prevention number. You can either use the automatic voice system or get a rep. The rep had a thick accent and wasn't very friendly tho.

This is a robocall from Visa Fraud Prevention that you may consider either:
    A) a nuisance call worthy of blocking    -or-     B) a valuable service

    Consider the two following scenarios:

Scenario 1.  You recently made a purchase on your visa card and you get a robocall requesting that you call Visa Fraud Prevention at 800-624-7486 to verify your recent Visa card transaction.  Visa is calling you for the sole purpose of benefiting themselves by limiting their possible financial loss on a lost or stolen card. (see info below regarding credit/debit liability caps).  But of course as you well know the transaction is perfectly legitimate – You made it.  Yet Visa is having their mindless robot call and interrupt/disturb/annoy you for their own selfish purposes, and with little or no information to indicate that the transaction in question is in any way fraudulent.  This is a call I would rather not receive.

Scenario 2.  There actually IS some fraudulent transaction on your credit or debit card.  In this case, the robocall from Visa could very likely save you $50 (unless you are the rare individual that monitors their debit account on a daily basis).  In this case these robocalls from Visa Fraud Prevention are a valuable service.

Some background on credit/debit card liability caps:  Under Federal law your liability for unauthorized charges on a credit card is $50 (many card issuers waive this $50).  For unauthorized charges on a debit card, under Federal law your liability ranges from $0 to $500 or more depending upon how quickly you report the card was lost or stolen.  Furthermore in the case of debit cards, in 1997 Visa announced a new policy that debit card holders have zero liability if a lost or stolen card is reported within two days, and a maximum liability of $50 if reported after two days.  So the bottom line is for Visa credit and debit cards your maximum liability is capped.

Personally, my inclination is to block these robocalls given my maximum loss is only $50.  My main concern is that if I block or blow off these annoying robocalls and refuse to participate in Visa’s self-serving scam by calling them back to confirm my perfectly valid purchases, that the bank might freeze my account.  If they do that I will be very angry.

more worthless robocalls from Visa trying to increase Visa's corporate profits by pestering cardholders over every little, completely legitimate purchase you make on your Visa card.  Yes this is a SCAM.

    NOT A FOOL
Never, ever, ever, give out personal information to anybody who calls like this, no matter how many times it says on websites that the call is legitimate.

Call your bank directly using the numbers on your card!  Anybody can write here that it's legitimate, even the people who want your info.  Be smart.

THIS IS A PHISHING ATTEMPT. THEY NOW USE THESE REPORTING SITES TO POST FALSE COMMENTS TO GET YOU TO BELIEVE IT'S FROM GOLDEN 1. DON'T FALL FOR IT AND DON'T FALL FOR THE FAKE POSTS.

    Scam
This is a scam. Golden 1 website specifically states not to give information to any call, text or email which “Informs you that fraudulent activity has been detected, then asks for account information to access the activity”. When you have a cell phone on file Golden 1 uses “two way fraud alerts” which text you about a transaction that just occurred.

Anyone posting on here that this call is legit, is a scammer.
